A Houston Pool Build Inside the Loop

Thanks TM! We are supposed to have an electrical installation today. They installed the equipment yesterday and cleaned the pool. But I think it's suppose to rain, so that'll mean more water and oak tree pollen in the pool.

Here are some fabulous pics of my equipment-all Jandy.

The electricians have arrived and are installing the outlets and automation. I am guessing final electrical inspection will happen today or Monday, then we can be scheduled for plaster!

One word of advice, don't expect that brass garden spigot to last long, mounted like that you will tend to get an air space that will accelerate corrosion, my guess is it will last 2-3 years, maybe little longer as that stub is short and not a lot of room for air space.

I really like how it all looks! So much space to work on as needed. You should down roofing felt with pretty rocks or paver on it make it weed/plant free so NO maintenance!

Every things looks so pretty! I love it all!

Thanks Isaac! That's good to know.

Getting close! Also that looks like a nice secluded/hidden corner to tuck the equipment away in.

plat.

Yes, it's behind the garage at the far corner.

Nice that you got the heater. I want one. We are looking at adding it now . I think we would get more use out of the pool.
I agree with Kim about adding the river rock. I did that upon her or Suz's suggestion and it really made a huge difference ! I also love the way the stone looks on your raised beam. It is going to be so beautiful. The pavers look fine. I love pavers. The look is just so inviting.

Marla, Marla, Marla!!!! It's all looking gorgeous!!!! The raised wall is elegant! I love the columns and ledger stone (??? - geez, I'm forgetting all the terms already! Lol!!). And as everyone says, the scuppers are beautiful - perfect for your entire design.

I think you're smart to wait until all is finished to decide about the pavers. I agree with everything Bmore said. It looks great now, and with time, they will only get better. Living with it all for awhile is the best way to go. There's just so much going on right now; it's hard to get an objective view of some things. I found it very overwhelming at the stage you're in. By then, I was exhausted from the build, and some things, I just let go. I was all out of decision-making energy!!! But, I'm old, so there you go!!

What an incredible retreat ya'll are building!

The weather this week for the Houston area looks great, so I hope your plaster is scheduled. And aren't you glad the pine pollen is over?? When I was dreaming that our pool build would be much faster, I knew I didn't want plaster during pine pollen season. It's so bad here. Maybe it doesn't make a difference, but I wouldn't trust it. Of course, we got plastered about 4 months after the pine pollen!

Can't wait to see the plaster!!!!!

Suz, glad you popped in! We don't have pine pollen here (no pine trees per say) but we DO have oak tree pollen. That's a huge mess with first the leaves and then the pollen and then the tassels that fall.

MMG was out to look at the pool on Saturday to see what needed to be done to get it ready. He drained the little bit of water, but when I asked about if we were scheduled, he was kinda non committal. Not too much left to do. Final electrical inspection should be Monday. The step marker tiles still need to be laid and then plaster.

Our pool designer is a landscape architect and gave us some help on our yard. We are going to put 3 Slender Silhouette Sweetgums at the back of the pool along the fence to act as a screen. We found out the house behind us will be torn down and 3 3-story townhouse monstrosities are being built. Same builder that did the one next door to us. This particular type of Sweetgum produces little to no fruit (spikey ball). I would like to plant some citrus that I have in pots along the other fence but I might move the pots just to make sure they'll get enough sun. Between the garage and pool, probably hostas since it's all shade. And I love grasses so I need to figure out where to include that! LOL! I'm just ready to get the yard back.

I am ready to get plastered!

Denise, they put the step markers in today. Except this wasn't how they were supposed to be.

They were supposed to be squares of 2x2 tiles spaced evenly apart (can't remember how far apart, tho).

I love your tile!!! That's a great close-up shot! It is beautiful. I think I know what you mean about the design you were expecting for the step tiles, but personally, I love how they did them in the continuous edging. With your pebble plaster and the mix of blues of the tile, I think this will show up better without 'popping' too much. I really do like having step tiles. I've read where people say they have no trouble seeing the step edges, but to me, my step edges blend together except where I see the step tiles. If I were to do it again..... I would do just like I see in your picture.

Are you going to ask them to change it? They will be beautiful either way, but I would keep it as is. The face stone on the raised part is gorgeous! Everything is going to look fabulous!!!! Are you about to jump out of your skin for the plaster????? I know I was at that point!

Suz
