A Houston Pool Build Inside the Loop

Is the color difference mostly because of age and fading in the sun? It's a really big contrast and the new ones definitely stand out with more reds and purples. I wonder if there would be a way to fast fade the new ones to look more like the old instead of the old to look like the new. Maybe bleach? Just thinking out loud. I don't think it looks bad but I totally get why you don't like it. The big difference between them would bother my OCD.

They came out on Saturday and finished the back wall. Scuppers should be installed this week as they just came in.

As far as decking goes, the designer said we should wait to see how it all looks together, i.e. With the water, so that is what we are going to do. Next year we are planning on redoing the deck area, so that might be when we redo it. I think what will end up happening is either we will replace the old with what we just had installed or replace all of it with something new. Plus this will give our bank account time to replenish itself!

They put the scuppers on yesterday. Equipment on Thursday and electrical on Friday. The plan is for plaster next week, depending on weather.

They also drained the pool again, 3rd time. The water was half way up to the former sewer line, the pipe on the bottom left.

Hi Marla! I'm finally beginning to do some catch up reading after being sick and subsequently very busy getting life around here back in order. I'm glad to see how much progress your build has made! Sorry to hear about your unhappiness with the pavers, but it sounds like you are being smart to give it some time before deciding anything. Everything is really coming together so well. It all looks so classy!

I'll be looking forward to seeing your plaster go in soon. I forget... What are you getting?

Jamie, we are getting PebbleSheen Blue Surf, aka Smurf, with beads and shells. The added cost of removing the pavers and installing new just isn't something we want to incur right now. Perhaps when we redo the deck area next year we'll consider it. It doesn't even need to be travertine (might be too expensive!) - i'd consider a Belgard paver. Of course, what we have now might have grown on me by then even more, so who knows.

Fire, thanks! I think they look great, too! Anxious to see water flowing from them.

Thanks Sooner! Good luck to OK in the Final Four!

And they are done. The older pavers haven't been power washed yet. Keep in mind these are about 10 yrs old so they are faded, too.

I would have no issue with keeping them as is. They are down and beautiful. It kind of represents life, when things get mixed up in your world, they don't always come back together lined up and matched perfectly. But that's what makes us special. Some may not let their OCD nature accept this, but my approach to life is becoming more accommodating as I age.

Thanks bmore! That's a good philosophy to have. They will be power washing the old either today or tomorrow. I'm okay with them as is but getting some crud off won't hurt!

Wendy, I can't wait to see what it looks like overflowing!
