What if the pool is not covered during the winter?

Honestly, I think that is it. You will have stuff falling in and no way to clean it out because pumps and everything will be shut off. Actually, if you get it back up and running before the water temperature gets above whatever temp algae starts to grow, you shouldn’t even have to worry about that.

    iPad or Laptop

I just picked up a new iPad (not the pro model) and it works with the iPad pencil, which is nice. I still use a computer for work, but the iPad does allow me to be more mobile.

Why do we need Skimmer socks if we have filter?

Not to mention cleaning out the stuff that gets caught in the tiny holes of the skimmer basket can be a huge pain. Much easier to just grab the hairnet full of stuff and chuck it and have a perfectly clean basket than trying to hose that thing out.

    Pool chipping away!

I have something similar going on. My plaster is only a couple of years old. It’s only happening on the seats in the spa though. Looks like a cat got in there over the winter. Pool company didn’t return my call or email. Company that closed it didn’t take responsibility. I’m under the...

    Heater suggestions

Also, with the 400k BTU heater, the gas company had to change out my gas meter and the plumber had to put in a thicker gas line to the equipment pad.

    Heater suggestions

I had a heater put in for our attached spa. It’s a Hayward 400k unit and we love it. We are in Southern New Jersey, but are able to open the pool in April and close it in mid to late October. We don’t constantly hear the pool but when it’s going to be a nice weekend, we get it going on Thursday...

New equipment package (Hayward) Please feedback

Most people on here recommend against the ozone. I don’t think there’s a quantifiable benefit. It wasn’t offered during my pool construction.

New equipment package (Hayward) Please feedback

Hi, I also have Hayward components for my pool. I have a prologic system to automate everything. 1. The SWG will only automate chlorine additions. You will still need to maintain the other chemicals. The SWG works off a percentage of the run time, so you set the % on the SWG in OmniLogic...

    SKIMMER nets

With the junk that finds its way into my skimmer, I’m not wringing anything out. We get mice, frogs, a snake once, and a ton of pollen. So much easier to grab the edges of the hairnet and drop it in the trash. I go through one every couple of days during pollen season. They also do a good job of...

    SKIMMER nets

Yes, buy hairnets from Amazon. Wrap the elastic over the top of the basket and around the handle. Problem solved and a whole lot cheaper than the skimmer socks at the pool store. A 100 hairnets is about $8.00. You don’t even feel bad throwing them away.

    Remotely controlling heater through smartphone

Do you have any existing automation system? Most major automation systems have modules that can help with this. I don’t think it’s possible to control just the heater because they work in conjunction with pumps to make sure there is flow through the heater.

Heaters - Can you go too big?

Yes, a 400k BTU unit should heat twice as fast as the 200k BTU heater. The other thing to consider is the diameter of your supply lines for natural gas. You might not have the plumbing to support the 400k btu heater. When the pool company installed mine, i had to have the gas company come out...

    Skimmer socks

Hairnets from Amazon. You can get 100 for about $6. They do the same thing and you don’t feel bad throwing them out every other day. It’s what I use during pollen season. Although, I don’t know how much you spent on the product there. Disposable Hair Net, Spun-Bonded Polypropylene, White, 100...

Pool & spa lights out of sync

I’m not sure how your system works. However, my lights (3) are connected to Hayward’s prologic with the pool independent of the spa. I can then “group” them together in the software so they come in and off together and change colors together. With that being said, I like the pool to be white and...

Calculating per-hour cost of natural gas heater.

I’ll see if I can hunt down the math for you. I’ve seen it in a thread on here before and used it in my own calculations. Here it is: The formula is pretty simple. Take the gallons of the pool and multiply by 8.3. That gives you the weight of the water. Take 20% off of the BTU rating of the...

Pool Heater - Will using it to maintain temperature cost alot of money?

Figure it takes your heater 1 hour to raise the pool temperature 1 degree. Here in New Jersey, that costs me $4.10 or so in Natural Gas per hour. I don’t think it is worth it keeping it to temperature during the week. The temps drop too much overnight. However, I will heat it for the occasional...

I have Hayward automation and products. Overall I am happy with the system. I have not added the mobile or computer control, but do have a remote and panel to control everything. Pool Heating Methods?

I think natural gas is the best bang for your buck if available. I can heat my 36000 gallon pool 20 degrees in a day and it probably costs me $50. I mainly use it for the spa and the one off pool party. Early in the season or late. The heat escapes quickly of overnight temps dip. My kids can...
