SLAM was successful but maintenance question

Thanks for the info about Borates - I will look into that I let the FC drift down to 5 - then measured PH which was 7.5. Added a little tiny bit muriatic acid. And later cranked FC back up to 10. Will add another gallon this sunday and hop up to 12-14 again. So far - No algae - I think I got...

SLAM was successful but maintenance question

Thanks Guys! Pool temp is now 92 - things still seem good. No chlorine smell - we are in it everyday. I am gonna risk to go down to FC 8 - take PH measurement then go back up to 15 - hopefully no problems. I have not heard about the borate at all. What's the deal with that?

SLAM was successful but maintenance question

Yes, I know - but that's not an option right now as I am looking to replaster after this summer season. So right now I need to get thru this season. Guerilla style. At CYA 160 - even refilling 50% would still leave me with CYA 80. So a complete refill is in order here. Will do that when I...

SLAM was successful but maintenance question

Hi - so I have no seen anymore yellow algae since the SLAM. My CYA diluted test came back with very high levels , depending on light 120-160. So my maintenance level should be 12-16. Question, PH reading is off over FC10. So I am still just letting it come down from Shock level which was 47...

    DPD Powder

So I have probably done 15 tests and I am getting low on DPD powder - it says its good for about 100 tests. I am using 1 heaping blue spoon full. But there is no way I can get 100 tests out of that little amount of powder. Am I using too much?

Test Results are in - who is the winner?

FC now 27 - still no algae growth ! So when I get to FC 10, I'll add a gallon of liquid once a week and see how that holds up. Is there any reason to shock every now and then, even if no algae is present?

Test Results are in - who is the winner?

Some are raised but some are not, definitely rough. Some areas are almost like little indents. What would the yellow color be? So far no algae growth coming back - pool went from 45 FC to now 35FC in the past few days...slowly drifting down.

Check out these pictures - does plaster have some yellowish component in it? If I brush over this I cannot get rid of the yellow parts. It looks like its part of the plaster. Any thoughts on these pics?

Test Results are in - who is the winner?

I guess I should have said - I brought the pool up to shock level... Am I correct in understanding that I am now going to measure over night - and once I don't loose any chlorine over night SLAM is done. Is that correct?

Do you ever decide to do the FC test diluted 50%? - just saves drops and less work

Test Results are in - who is the winner?

Oh yeah, draconian rules for sure. Lol! So, I slammed the pool. Now we wait... Will get a quote for reverse, just to know. Sounds like its an expensive ordeal. Makes no sense to me. I'd rather put that money towards replastering / refilling - I'll probably swing thru this summer season by...

Thanks man! I just came across this on my search for ...calcium hardness, CYA reduction. Then again, if I measure my water afterwards and its unchanged -...

Test Results are in - who is the winner?

Thanks! I do have a question - if I go thru with slamming. Do I go about it by adding 1 gallon of liquid chlorine every 2 hours...measure ...until I reach 45-47? Can I still go in at that level or will my pants fall off? :) Also, the local pool store sells 12% potent chlorine vs Do it center...

Test Results are in - who is the winner?

Ok, of course you had the right feeling here. CYA on diluted test came back with 120-130 range :( We have some pretty harsh water restrictions, if I dump half the pool that's gonna cost half a fortune only to drain it completely anyways when replastering (and I have questions about that too btw...

    Speed Stir

Thanks everybody! It seems to be working good now. What a nifty tool - holding the tube in hand and shaking it without spilling while adding drops and counting is quite the finnicky task. Glad I got the speed stir. Just tested the pool water. Few rounds just to make sure I did it right. Will...
