Is >10 weeks without the need to shock unusual?

Going on 4 years and have never had to "shock" my pool. Oh, and although you say you are using TFP methods, that would NOT include using an algaecide.

    pH stubbornly high

I have stopped fighting my PH. It wants to wander up to 8.0+ and no matter how many times I push the TA back down (hangs around 80-90) via the aforementioned TFP method, it invariably creeps back up. I think for some of us, it's just the way it is. My fill water (well) has a TA of 20, so I don't...

"Automated" pool chemical testing w wifi ??

I used the WaterGuru for about a year but ultimately abandoned its use. It was fairly accurate, but it took readings everyday (unable to adjust frequency) and the cartridges weren't very cheap. Also, customer service was spotty and a few members here had some issues getting a hold of anyone for...

Help! Raccoon Feces in the Pool 😩💩

Per the CDC: Because Baylisascaris eggs (which can be a very bad deal) are particularly tough, adding chlorine to the water will not kill them.

Pool is happy at 7.9 pH…do I fight it?

Mine also likes hanging around 7.9-8.0'ish. I did fight it for a bit, but gave up as my CSI really stays close to 0 with me not touching it and it stays nice and clear.

    Opening Pool - Cloudy Water

I would also add that since you are Oklahoma, there is probably a LOT of dirt in the water. I have had a pool here for about 3 years and I had a pretty significant cloudiness issue that I *thought* might need a SLAM but my numbers showed otherwise. Ultimately, it took almost 4 days of running...

    Time for SLAM?

Well, this morning the pool is looking much better. I guess there was just a lot more dirt/gunk in there than I thought. I will let it run for the rest of the day and I have the SWCG up and running now. I also talked to my neighbor and he also noted his pool had a lot of dirt he had to deal with...

    Time for SLAM?

Nope, nothing out of the ordinary. I use the "liquid shock" LC from Atwood's and have never had issues with it in the past. With the pool temp just reaching 60 degrees, I really thought that algae wouldn't be present and/or growing. I guess I will let the filter keep on keeping on and see what...

    Time for SLAM?

I have been on TFP for several years and have had no issues with water clarity while using the TFP system until now. Long story short, there is slight milky haze to my normally pristine and crystal clear water. On occasion, a rain storm will wash some organic mess into the pool, but will clear...

    TF100 CH Reagent Quantities

I am sure there is a simple answer to this, but I can't think of it. For the test, we use: 10 drops of R-0010 3 drops of R-0011L TBD of R-0012 Yet, the amount shipped in the kit is 1/2 oz of 0010 and 1 oz of 0011. Why is this?

    Test Kit Refills

I ordered mine on 3/16 and got it yesterday (3/23). No email confirmation of shipping, so emailed them but no answer. It looked like it was run over by the USPS, but no bottles were damaged.

Airbnb house pool causing rashes, ideas?

OK...I finally found a DOWNSIDE to TFP. What is it, you ask? Well, TOO MUCH KNOWLEDGE!!! Before TFP, I would bathe in ignorant bliss in any pool that "looked OK"....but OH NO....now I know better and well, I just can't look at another pool...it's like cheating on MY POOL! Perhaps TFP should set...

About to run out of liquid chlorine

I can't seem to find it right now, but Tractor Supply used to stock "Online Pool Shock" (12.5%) and it was about $2 a gallon. I restocked back in June (if I recall) and they had limited supplies. Couldn't hurt to call the couple of stores in the Austin area. Here is what it looks like:

    Pool Store Honesty Test

You know, I think a pool's clarity is the closest thing to an actual, workable magic 8 ball I have ever seen. It took a little while, but I can now pretty much tell at a glance if something is askew (usually high Ph which is the only thing I need to adjust on a frequent basis) and my testing...

Saltwater Chlorine levels low after party/rain storm

    Pool Store Honesty Test

Looking at the names of the "magic oils" with the registered trademark symbol next to them (and goofy names, too..."Lo n' Slo" and "Pool Juice"??! Really?) reminds me of a MLM scheme that is run by a guy/gal who will be featured on "American Greed" in the very near future.

Saltwater Chlorine levels low after party/rain storm

There is no magic solution that will fix this quickly as it seems though you would like (wouldn't we all?) The SLAM process is the best and fastest way to accomplish a perfectly clear and safe pool but it will take AT LEAST a couple/few days...you have to patient and persistent. Just adding a...

    Water guru

There are some threads on the WG and I am a former user. Good concept but poor execution in my opinion. I got the test results back pretty quick (about 3-5 days after mailing) but I have heard some other folks here have issues contacting customer service if there was an issue. The sample was...

How often do you do each of the tests?

Once I have gotten the SWCG dialed in, I check the FC and PH every couple or 3 days. I run all the tests about once every couple of weeks. If it rains a significant amount, I will also run them all. After a while your pool will give you "clues" when things are askew. I can tell by the clarity...

Is my CYA tester fluid faulty or am I the worst CYA tester in history?

I actually am not seeing a debate in this thread. A discussion on testing techniques? Yep. A couple opinions on what users "see" on the OPs test? Yep. But debate? Nah.
