So this happened

So I knew I'd have some sprinkler damage but I was hoping it would be just one line that had to go through the pool. I got 9 halves. 🤦‍♂️ and it looks like they did loop-dee loos because only 2 line up, with this one went to that one. I'm just not going to make any sense out of it.

So i will run through the zones that are back there and find/ label my feeds when they squirt. Then I will takr one long piece and connect a feed to each of the 'extras' and label them. I made a map of the property when I moved in with the zones/heads so even if some of the heads are buried under the dirt pile, only one has to fire and I'll know that's zone 12 (?). Then its connect the halves.

But. Another chapter of Newdude's guide to making lemonade...... 😁 where the Negative Nancy's see extra damage, I see easy access to 1 inch fill pipes. My plans were to cut and tap the house feed which is 1 inch (coincidentally where the sprinklers connect) and run a sprinkler pipe through the basement window out to the pool. But now that I have several out there, it's much easier. By the time they wrap around the house they lose some oomph so I'll probably use 2.

So when's the party?
You might as well pick the date. The excitement is likely short lived. PB told me upfront a few weeks back that he wanted it in the ground so when he got the last pieces of the puzzle it could just be done.

Plastic stairs is one of the hangups. I can't do liner steps with the puppies. I found one place that could ship the stairs when i looked recently and it was triple the regular cost with a 21 business day process time. No way they wouldn't be backordered in that time. Not that it would matter as PB has to use his supplier anyway. They are the only ones that matter, even if i did find them.

OK, so 'dude PM'd me today that his pool finally started, with a link to this thread. And that is fantastic news. So I promised him two things, (1) that I would follow his thread and (2) that I wouldn't try to convince him to get an IntellipH!

But then I started thinking about it, and how, well, baseball season just started, and how, well, I've heard that batting 500 is really good. So, you know, well, I'm definitely going to follow his thread...

.500 is immortal status my friend. The best anyone has ever done was a skootch over 1/3. If you keep one of your promises, 3 times in 10 attempts, they'll enshine you in the Hall of Fame. (y)

So about that acid doser that means i wont have to lug jugs..... i'm all ears. The precedent is set with the SWG. I paid $1500 to never leave my backyard. I can spend at least that much without the CFO demanding an audit. How much does the IntelliPH cost to produce MA for me ? It must be nice not having to spill that bottle either.

If you’re worried about acid, then use CO2 -

Price out tanks of CO2 versus gallons of MA. MA costs have gone way up with all the supply chain craziness and inflation. CO2 tanks may be comparable at this point. PoolSmith is another CO2 injection system. They’re low-tech though, no probes. You just sort of do some trial and error to figure out how much CO2 to dose then you set it and forget it. You also have low TA fill water where you live so CO2 offers the slight advantage of not constantly lowering TA.

That's real neat. My old pool held steady and Ph was rarely a concern. I have no idea what i am in for just a few miles away. Gonna test that theory of 'even 2 pools down the block might be different....... turnover is a garbage stat'. Well. Turnover is garbage at both i suppose, but you know what i mean. :ROFLMAO:

What is MA up to ? I quit right before things got ugly and it was $15.

Nevermind. Its down to $12 at HD for me. You folks that had it cheap before went up to our prices. My regular price was $13 year after year and the first year of the TP apocalypse made it $15. I didn't ask any questions. I just walked away slowly.

I guess we really are spoiled in the Midwest. And 12.5% LC is still 3.99/gal.

The part that i regret the most is not putting 2 skimmers. Now that you have the irrigation lines exposed tie a selenoid to the fill line with regular floater and later program it for 15 min a day. This will save on costly water bill if a leak ever develops.

Depth profile?
3.5 - 8. Actual is 3 - 7.5. (I wanted deeper in the shallow end but Covid already did a number on the budget)
Type of pool finish
Vinyl, blue with swirls. Preferably dark blue but will take whatever is available when the time comes. The old one was 502 colors. This will be too
Number of skimmers and returns?
2 each
Home runs's ?
Center field. Parking lot.

Deep end main drains.
Cleaning system?
Robot TBD on availability, named the Dread Robot Roberts. Pollen would never surrender to the Dread Robot Newdude. When the time comes I will bring on a new crew and call the replacement Roberts and they will never know that he isn't.
Water features?
Me dumping an occasional jug of MA in front of a return.

Maybe a stand alone one day.
Heater? Solar?
Gas heater down the road. Stubbed for now.
Equipment brand?
Pentair Intelliflo / IC60 / Star rite S8M500 cartridge filter.

We shall call this design “The Simpool”!
Simple but it works!
Description:
Large, wet rectangle w/ oversized Swg & filter, & robotic cleaner.
No bells 🔔, no whistles, it has what it needs for simple almost effortless operation & enjoyment , no more, no less.
I like your plan/style - similar to buying a car based on it’s motor & transmission’s reliability vs it’s fancy gadgets like wireless charging & 14 moon roofs that will inevitably leak.
Practical, reliable, & uncomplicated!
Simple pools are beautiful 🤩

LOVE it and stealing !!!! Last time at every decision we wanted more pool instead of more things on the existing plan. Knowing zero about pools we started with 16x32 which became 18x36 and wait. I can go bigger with no waterfalls ???? Sign me up !!!

My only add would have been ..... surprise surprise..... going to 24 ft wide. 40 was plenty long but I could easily hit the wall diving side to side. 4 ft wider was $7k after the supply issues jacked us $7k in 4 months while we were trigger shy. If I had just thrown caution to the wind immediately after moving, I'd have a 24x40 being built right now for what I paid for the 20X40. 🤦‍♂️

Ooooooooh. There is one option. We went with a 6 ft long deep end bench along the house side instead of a ladder. The ladder was a necessary evil with little kids but it was a PITA to remove for the cover every year. Then it took up a chunk of the garage being so awkwardly shaped.

*** *y'all be forewarned if anyone ever comes to visit.

Anyone who stops to look for all the features I don't have, gets body checked into the pool so they can have a closer look. I like to make it easier for my friends because I'm thoughtful like that.

And I don't know about all the people complaining about worker garbage. The dog is OVER THE MOON finding all the water bottles. It's like a Easter Egg hunt for Puppies. It's Easter and all but he thinks it's better than Christmas.

Many labels and caps will die today. He will leave the discarded carcasses where I can easily find them. He's such a good helper.
