Hello from an excited Newbie in Bixby Oklahoma!!

PARTY!! :cheers::whoot::party::punkrock::testkit::paddle:

Santa is really coming to your place! :santa:

I'm SO HAPPY for you!

Hugs,
Suz.

Yes, Suz, Santa came for the whole family-as in, I told everyone "Merry Christmas, I'm not buying gifts this year but you can swim this summer!"

Wow, that *is* exciting news, Denise! You've put so much time into picking just the right one that I sure it will turn out great. I can't wait to follow your build. Do you hope to break ground in January?
I think so, Jamie. It sounds like it will go fairly quickly, or so I was told.... I told him I figured it would be done sometime in April, PB thinks it will be earlier. Depends on the weather.

That's great news! Congrats!

Did you have your eye surgery?

Thanks, Marla! Your turn next!!!

Thank you for asking! I had my right eye done on Wednesday the 2nd. It's slowing getting to feel more normal but not all the way there yet. Went for my post op yesterday and they were surprised I tested at 20/20 in my right eye less tha 24hrs after surgery. I drove today and I could see at night without glasses! But my eyes are tired early in the evening. I was told it would be that way for a little bit.
Funny thing, during the procedure, the anesthesiologist and the nurse were trying to recruit me to come to work there. They sent the director over to meet me and give me her card when I was in recovery. Lol!

What? he smiled?? LOL That would be mine!

Kim

Yes, something like that ;)

Happy signing contract day!!!! [emoji322][emoji322][emoji322][emoji322]

Thanks, Amanda! It has been a happy day!

Did I tell you my daughter's name is Amanda?

It is tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Oh happy day! You will have to give a blow by blow! Did you make any changes?

:snorkle::paddle: That will be you soon!

Kim

Ok, now for the details!

Didn't make any significant changes. I just did ALOT of number crunching!!! Like HOURS AND HOURS!!! I think I used an entire redwood (I'm old school paper and calculator).
I went over Hubby's budget a little (oops!) but our loan amount is CLOSE(ish) to what he said but our total for the contract is about 680 over the loan amount so, this girl will be picking up some shifts!

What I decided on (Hubby didn't care and is not good at giving me input except to say , No (bless his heart). So, after I was half crazy with all the adding and re-adding, trying to get in budget, deciding what to keep and what to toss, I called my son. He's like me. He listens than gives pros and cons and is a good sounding board. Once I laid out my options, he helped me come to some good conclusions.

What I ended up with (if I don't change anything- Suz, I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!)

- 17'6"x30' rectangular pool (this may be different as our plat shows a 17.5' easement instead of the 17' I thought it was
:(
- tanning ledge with bubbles ( number to be determined but probably 2)
- 7x7 rectangle spa with tile and concrete cap
- Hayward 30" sand filter (may still go with DE)
- Hayward 400k BTU heater
- Polaris 280 (I know, I know...I asked about the credit so I could get a robot instead and I was told it would be about $250- that's not enough to offset the robot, we may get one down the road)
- Gemstone finish (I think I was misquoted the upgrade price on the Radiant fusion. If that ends up being the case, some of these options for the deck will change so I can get that instead)
- GoldLine PL-4 automation
- VS pump
- 2 concrete fire and water bowls set on top of two 2'x2'x18" high stacked stone pedestals
- stacked stone fire pit
- scored salt finish deck
- 2 multicolor Hayward lights in the pool, 1 in the spa

My dilemma had been, do I cut the fire and just have water so we can add the pergola? I'm still not sure. Their's is beautiful but I saw some cheaper ones...
I was also agonizing over tile on the spa and it not matching the pedestals and fire pit
Another mind tussle involved whether or not to score the whole deck or just score the coping.

So so much to decide....

Went to the PB office today to look at their samples and displays. I wasn't thrilled with the stone choices there so they told me where I can go look for more options.
I also found out that the stone joints won't be mortared. This is a problem. We have a problem with mud daubers in our area and hubby does not like non mortared joint. I like the look but I need him to be a happy camper. Getting this done may cause a shift in what we do to the deck.

I tentatively picked out a waterline tile I like. I really like color, but I think I'm going to go neutral (think stone-look/Tuscany/Italian villa/travertine (that I can't afford)

The PB has a cool set up at the office. They have an inground pool built with a variety of options, various stone, a kitchen, pergola, grotto, waterfall, and the plaster is sectioned out with different Gemstone colors separated by glass tile.
I didn't take a big overview picture for you all to see. It was late in the day and I only had a little bit of time. I'm going to go back probably Monday when it's earlier and sunny and take some more pictures.

I got some live shots of the Topaz gemstone. I still like it.

I I am going to go to the stone place tomorrow.

This is the tile I'm leaning toward

This was taken indoors- ignore the blue tiles

This was taken outside in the sun with the Topaz sample

This is the one I think I like best out of the two. It's the Classico color

I'll try to post the pictures from the PB display pool tomorrow. Photobucket or my wifi is acting up and not being cooperative.

-mortared stone would be a must here as well for that very reason----mud daubers AND spider webs. You would be forever cleaning it AND we both know you never really get it all off without a lot of work as it seems to stain.

I am hoping the restriction does not case a problem. I hope they can work it out so you do not lose any size.

-Waterline tile-------when I first read you were going neutral I was disappointed-she LOVES color! How could she NOT get COLOR for the water line tile!!! BUT when I saw the plaster with the lighter tile and looking at the blue tile (that you told us to ignore) I can see you DID pick the right one! The lighter one you like the best really sets off that plaster!

-- "Polaris 280 (I know, I know...I asked about the credit so I could get a robot instead and I was told it would be about $250- that's not enough to offset the robot, we may get one down the road)" Does this $250 include the cost of the pump to run it???? Just want to make sure.

-stone/tiles debate-Lets all of us find examples of this so she can see what it looks like. Suz? Marla? What can you find?

-"Another mind tussle involved whether or not to score the whole deck or just score the coping." Not sure what you mean here-score as in get it?

Can't wait to see the pics you get of the examples! It better NOT rain on Monday!

SO glad to hear your vision is on the up swing! Nice to see at night!

Scoring as in they draw line in the concrete to make it look like there is coping around the pool and they can do a pattern (i.e. Diamonds) in the rest of the deck and not just have big slabs with stress joints.
This is a friend's pool.

Here's some of the pictures I took at the PB display pool. I'll get better ones next week. Topaz is the top left square

Here, topaz is the second from the left on top. The sun was setting so lots of shadow created by the landscape around the pool

Here topaz is the most prominent square. Look kinda greenish in shadow but we have a full sun yard.

Topaz is the one with the dark black spot in it. I have no idea what that is. Maybe a leaf.

Got it! I forgot about that kind of scoring!

That is a pretty pool! She scored (hehe) with that one!

Kim

Yes it is! The pictures she texted me turn into video when I hold my finger on them. It's pretty cool- I get to see and hear her water features.

I love the rectangular pool!

Thanks Janny! I am embracing it even though I'm a free form girl at heart.

Congrats! I am so excited for you. I would love to see your PB's setup. Ours has an amazing office but no sample pool!

Thanks Umm!! I'll get better pictures next week. It really is pretty cool.

The reason for the neutral tile is to showcase the water and then I can accent with any color and not worry about always needing my cushions or umbrellas to be blue or green or whatever. That is where the color will come (hopefully!). That fight is down the road... I told you my husband likes grey, right?

Going back to the tile... I like the Classico. It has a tumbled marble look to it. I'm just wondering how hard it would be to keep those "imperfections" (I'm not sure what you'd call them-the lighter areas of indentations) clean. Or would you fill them in with grout?

Gee, I don't know..... I guess I need some experts to weigh in. I sure don't want to buy trouble

I like the look of the scored concrete coping with the rest of the decking only having the regular scores to encourage the cracking to occur where you want it to. I'm generally not a fan of cantilever coping that has a smooth look all the way to the waterline so this is a good way to make it look more appealing for me.

I'd definitely get the water/fire pots now and defer the pergola. A pergola can always be added later once you sweet-talk your husband. Just be sure to sneak in any footings where the pergola will go (and conduit for any electrical). He'll ask, why is the concrete going to be deeper in those four spots, just smile and "dunno...but look at those neutral waterline tiles!".

That is exactly what my son told me, which is why I went with the fire and water. I HOPE we can do the pergola down the road, however, through the years things that were supposed to happen "down the road" have ended falling by the way side. In all reality, this may be as good as it gets- which, don't get me wrong, I am BEYOND GRATEFUL for.... I just don't want to have useless pretties at the expense of function (shade) if it never happens. If only someone had a crystal ball I could borrow....

I will definitely do the scoring for the coping. I find that I like coping over cantilever for myself (I'm a "details" girl). As for the rest of the deck scoring, that money will most likely go for mortar in the stone joints. I'm hoping it won't cost more than that. With moving utilities and my $680 overage, we are several thousand in the hole (that we don't currently have) and I haven't bought a back fence, landscape, furniture or toys-yet.... I see a lot OT in my future....

You totally made me laugh with the neutral tile distraction! If only that worked for me!
I'll check into the footings for the pergola and the electrical. We planned on having that area stubbed with gas and electric and possibly water for a "future" kitchen (again, where is that crystal ball?). However, it's going to come down to $$$ as these things always do...

I like how they used the different colors in the same pool! Nice way to showcase them.

I like your thoughts on the colors! We can get your hubby ONE pillow in gray! LOL

Kim

It really is neat to see. The first time we went there, I was so overwhelmed with all the options, choices, and shiney pretties that I couldn't take it all in. My head was spinning!

Nope- no gray. The weathered fence and the gray concrete are all he gets, unless God throws in an overcast sky! Lol!

A couple of important details I left out:

We we can request Lien releases as the project progresses. It is a standard item in their contract.

I work Fri, Sat and Sundays so I told PB no work is to be done during those days. That way, I'll be here for important days.

When end they come to paint the pool outline, the customer MUST be present. Otherwise it's a no go. Once the outline is agreed upon, they immediately begin the dig.
I forget the intervals between each step but it sounded like 6-8 was overall from dig to completion.
