Brand New Pool Cloudy— Help I’m Desperate!

Ok, then go ahead and add up to another cup in 1/4 increments and see what happens to pressure...I've seen some filters take up to 11 cups, to get 1psi, but I think that is anomalous...

Ok we are going to do in a second. FOR THE CYA, I cleaned everything with alcohol and read your instructions again out loud and to my husband too. We both did the test independently. We couldn’t see the dot at 60 so +10, it is 70 like I said yesterday. I wonder if my vials were dirty and I think I was holding it too high today, not waist height!!!

OK, good job. Having a second set of eyes always helps.

If you want to, in the future you can get a standard solution. It has 50ppm of cya in the water. Substitute it in the test for your pool water. Add the reagent and mix. Fill to the 50 line. It will show you what the endpoint should look like.

Leave your FC alone until the starting OCLT tonight. GOOD LUCK! Take care, clean, slow drops...let them drop from their own weight, both count drops so you don't miss any. After sunset and before sunrise! SWCG OFF!

How is the filtering going? You should take a picture 2x per day from the same location. You can compare for progress. You will see even minor changes.

Added another cup of DE, no change! Still 10ish psi. 😟 Why do you think that is??Pool clarity looks no different but we’ve had it higher for the DE addition. Will post more pics in the AM. Will do OCLT soon.

Yes. Them's the rules. Once the sun is up, UV is present. If you want to chance it, that is your choice. I want to pass this test! Ain't letting a 1/2-1 hour of sun ruin my OCLT...

Pool still cloudy as heck (taken after DE add and sweeping), but I do feel like the color looks a little better. Not so gray? Will take pics in the morning. Here’s the inside of the robot vac too. Filter psi hasn’t budged. I don’t get it! Just did OCLT & added results.

Yeesh! You are on DAY 1. Maybe I should link you to some of the two, three and four week slam threads. :ROFLMAO: 😜

Sand filters take the longest to clear the pool of all filter types, even after you pass OCLT.

We'll get this. We've got some more tricks up our sleeve, but we haven't passed any of the criteria to use them.

I usually don't prescribe these until day 3-5, but I think you are the day 1 prescription type:

Just annoys me we could’ve been doing this as early as 6/27 if it weren’t for our Crud contractor (who gave us zero direction after being asked WHAT SHOULD WE DO and telling him it was still cloudy long after he said it should’ve been clear). We missed the 4th & my bday on 7/5. It’s been in since DECEMBER! Ok, sorry. Rant over. You’re helping us now and we are very grateful!!!

Can't rewrite the past.
Only fix the now, we can.
Teach you, and you will be queen of the pool.
Look at how much you have learned so far? You are even bonding with your hubby over CYA...whoda' thunk?
It does get easier. When you know, you catch it before anything happens. With SWCG, you are way ahead of the game.
I spend < 5 minutes a day on the pool at this point. SWCG up a little, SWCG down a little.
Mine has never seen algae in years since first/only slam.
Better to learn it right the first time, then you will know.
You will be proud of your accomplishment, and confident you can handle anything.

Review this once a day after taking the P.O.P pills. Link-->How Clear is TFP Clear?

Pills, alcohol, hubby and dreams of a clear pool...who can ask for more?

Ok, you're right. Pills, alcohol, hubby and clear pool is more better...

You are the Ted Lasso of pool care! Those pics were super motivational tho hubby said, “I can’t look. It’s too painful.” 😂

Did the OCLT this morning. Rinsed tube w alcohol. Water looks about the same as yesterday, but psi increased to 15 at 80%, so I’ll have hubby backwash when he wakes up. Water level is a bit low already, but we are expecting A LOT of rain (2-4”) starting tonight at 11pm. Add a little from hose or let rain fill? Adding chlorine again now.

Take a picture of your skimmer, so I can see water level.

Good job on the OCLT. A .5 loss on the FC is a pass for FC.

The 1 CC is still an issue. Confirm, after FC test, you added 5 drops of the R-0003, then it took 2 drops of the R-0871 to clear?

I'm a bit concerned about the sand and the white in the robot. It could be there is an issue with the filter...and it is allowing sand and DE to return to the pool. You said there was a bunch of construction debris/sand. How do you know this?

What does the white feel like?

With a CSI of -.44, I doubt it is calcium, but for grins, collect some of the white from the robot and drop a drop of muriatic on it and see if it fizzes.

I'd also like you to figure out how to put a sock on a return jet...put the sock over a return, and tie a string around the jet to hold it on if you can. I want to see if the filter is returning material to the pool.

Can you also some pictures of your equipment pad, so I can see all the equipment and valves.

Will ask hubby to do. I’m back at work today, and he’s WFH.

Yes 5 drops of R-0003 and yes 2 drops to clear

We just assumed bc we broke up a large patio to add the pool and the color is the same as the backfill dirt, and we haven’t added landscaping yet which would stabilize any erosion. We’ve been consistently getting gravel in the bot too.
What does the white feel like?
Will ask hubby

Will ask him to do after running bot again

Ugh I will NOT be happy w contractor if this is the case bc I suggested this from the get go! Would not explain powdery stuff on steps though, would it? I will read up on how to do.

Yes will ask hubby

Ok, attaching pics of skimmer level, setup,
and valves (it’s messy). He did the sock. Ran it at 50% for 3-4 minutes and it did feel gritty. He swapped out the sock and did it again for 3ish minutes and did not feel gritty.
