No Ionization

One thing I've learned quickly is that ionization is not the popular opinion! And after reading.... I understand. BUT, when I purchased my package with my pool, my installer was suggesting the ionizer system and he would provide for me. He helped me place my order. Now if I'd like to change to saltwater, what do I need to purchase to be ready for this install? Please help!! Do I just need the right chemicals or an actual piece of equipment to use this setup for a saltwater system? Any guidance would be appreciated. Brand new pool owner, and I'm slightly overwhelmed that I won't have enough chemicals, the right equipment, prepare for shortages, what to have on hand- I need all the KNOWS! (in case my screenshot doesn't come through- I basically purchased a giant oval AGP/liner and a 2 speed sand filter pump, plus skimmer. There must be more to this! If anyone can chime in on a Dolphin recommended for AGP this size, i'd love to know- i'm between a nautilus CC Plus and one cheaper- but I don't think there are many Dolphins cheaper that can go +40 feet.

You would need a salt water generator. It's an actual piece of equipment. You can search on this forum (upper right hand corner) for SWG installation and it will prob bring up some posts that might help. Chemicals you'll need: plain bleach or liquid chlorine, CYA (stabilizer). If you get a SWG, you'll need pool salt. Once you test and see where things are you may need muriatic acid and/or baking soda.

The fist thing to buy is a good test kit. It will save you so much heartache and money if you test your water yourself WITH a good test kit. TFT test kit or the Taylor K-2006 . The test kit will be overwhelming at first, but once you get it down, it's fast and easy to use.

A salt pool IS a chlorine pool that uses the salt & the swg to create the chlorine for u.
all the ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry _CYA][/FC_CYA] still apply.
It looks as if you’re pool volume will be around 24k gallons

You will want a salt water chlorine generator that is rated for twice that amount- so 50k gal. This helps the cell live longer as you won’t need to run it 100% 24/7. You do not want an under powered cell.

Many members here are happy with their circupool swgs. Diy of them is fairly straight forward & doesn’t effect the warranty.
Hopefully u can g your $ back for the ionizer.
As for the dolphin there are several with a 50ft or longer cord. These are the original models which are rebranded with fun names at other retailers (kinda like mattresses)

You definitely don't need the ionizer. Take the money you would have spent on that and get a SWG.
As mentioned by @Mdragger88 , pick a salt cell that is 2x rated for the pool volume.
The Hayward AquaRite T-15 or CircuPool RJ-30 would be a good fit if you didn't have any automation.

As far as items to have on hand, I would suggest the following:
Test Kit: TF-100 from TFTestkits.net
Liquid chlorine, granular CYA, muriatic acid, salt (if going with a SWG)
Don't get any other chemicals until you perform testing.
Most of these chemicals can he found at your favorite grocery or hardware store.

Now I’m totally freaked out about the ionizer. What do I do now? The pool I got does not say its compatible with saltwater system! I thought I could just buy the SWG that ya'll suggested and would've been ok, but now I’m realizing this pool does not say salt water compatible. Should I just plan to use chlorine? (I never bought the ionizer, I was going to on pool install day from the installer).

So now I have sitting in my driveway: a giant pool (21'x43'x54" Melenia Oval Pool with an upgraded liner), and a hayward S230T 23” Sand Filter System 1.5-HP 2-Speed Matrix Pump. Install date in March and I want all my equipment ready for installer! Is there a type of generator thing needed to run good old fashioned chlorine? Or take the plunge on a SWG and likely void any pool warranty from Wilbar? Will it kill the lifespan of my pool to use a SWG and saltwater system? (Here’s the pool: 21'x43'x54" Melenia Oval Swimming Pool)

Reading the warranty it does not state anything about salt nor does it cover corrosion, from any source that I can tell.

Using liquid chlorine will raise the salinity in the water to near what you will use for the SWCG in a year or so.

Corrosion will occur if you have a leak in the liner. Any corrosion other than that will happen regardless if you have a SWCG or not.
