Intake...........you mean like a main drain?
John_and_Val
YES....
"Intake" is a term that is typically used by Pentair and others to describe where the water that enters the pump originates from. I prefer the term "
suction", because for me anyway, it is more descriptive but whatever.
As I alluded to in the earlier post, the "PS" model has both a RETURN and an INTAKE
(suction) 3-pin Valve Actuator Sockets on the daughter (or Optional Personality) card, for use with a RETURN and INTAKE
(suction) valve actuators. It is not required to use these two 3-pin Valve Actuator Sockets
however (I don't). But most who do have a Pool/Spa combo, DO in fact, use this feature. Also, there are a few that do not have a Spa that use the "PS" model as a work-around for some other particular setup.
This feature is incorporated on the "PS" model to "
normally":
1. Control if the water that is suctioned (Intake) into the pump, is from the Pool or from the Spa. Those can be from a main drain or from a skimmer typically.
2. Control if the water that is returned (Return) from the filtration system goes to the Pool or goes to the Spa.
When in "Pool Mode", water is suctioned from the pool and returned to the pool.
When in "Spa Mode", water is suctioned from the spa and returned to the spa.
Here is a basic/generic Pool/Spa setup that hopefully helps to illustrate the concept.

The "P" MODEL has no such 3-pin Valve Actuator Sockets (RETURN & INTAKE (or Spa relay socket for that matter)) on the daughter card as illustrated below. It is
normally used in setups that do NOT have a spa.

Hope I didn't confuse this issue too much with too much information, but I wanted to try and give you the "whole story" as I see it. Please remember a PS daughter card DOES NOT prevent you from using it in your
Pool Only setup if you feel you want to. Maybe you might find it useful. I don't know?
All the best.
