Poolmath calculation of chemical cost per use

While I can enter in the app the total chemical cost of a purchase and get a summary report,
I don’t think the cost is linked to the chemical additions after testing. This would provide an actual cost based on use.

Rather than entering the total purchase cost, eg Muriatic acid $12 x 7 gal =84 gal·$
I wish to enter a per gal or per oz cost, and each addition of a chemical uses that cost/unit value to calculate the total added cost per each chemical material

If this is possible already, please let me know how to do it thanks Carl

18 x 33 x 56" Semi-In Ground NJ

Passed the plumbing, bonding, and underground conduit inspections. Plumbing inspector came out and complimented my equipment enclosure (can’t wait to tell my wife that one and for her to say I need a bigger hat now 😂) I explained to him I did a 30psi test last night for a half hour with 1.5 loss, took a lap around the pool and said looks good I’m just going to give you the final tag I don’t need to come back out here and check your work. 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻. So I started backfilling in the rain solo 😂

Metal Trap vs RV Water Softener for top-ups

I demanded they triple my salary this pool season and they agreed to adding a few more zero’s to my pay ….

So very nice of them to meet your demands.

It’ll whatever the effect of adding chemicals on pool math says it will be. Since you’re in New England I imagine your water is already pretty low in CH.

Yup, 75. It's like you know what you are talking about or something. Ask for another zero.

You may want to drop the pH and TA a bit to compensate for the higher pH from the cal-hypo. I’d leave the SWG running as the iron precipitation process really won’t impact it.

👍

In my opinion, the metal trap scenario carries a pretty high upfront cost for an unknown result. The “bucket method” seems like a lower cost entry point which has a fair number of positive result associated with it. So Id likely opt for the lower cost/higher likelihood option.

Plus, no one has ever said. “Darn it! I have too many 5 gallon buckets …

Can I get an Amen!

Thanks again for taking the time. Hope you have a great day!

Resurfacing with River Rok – Need Supplier & Tips for DIY

When I did a search for River Roc I found several dealers in FL most of them being in mid and south FL. Dealer Locator - SGM, Inc.

Are you thinking of doing the work your self? I do know that many of them will not sell to the general public. I suggest you call some of the ones closest to you and see what they say. Sure can't hurt to ask!
Thanks for your reply.

I will be the GC as we did during the initial construction in 2009. The issue this time around is finding a reputable supplier willing to export to the Caribbean using our freight forwarder. The previous supplier is no longer in operation.

Here’s a list of the equipment and materials we are seeking to purchase.
  • Hayward 24” Pro Series Top Mount Sand Filter with 1.5” Valve – 1 unit
  • Hayward Super Pump® XE 2.25HP SP2615X20XE – 1 unit
  • River Rok Lucayan Blue – 60 bags
  • Granito Tile Azul Del Mar 6” x 6” – 50 pcs
  • Da Vinci Travertine Pool Coping 12” x 24” Bullnose – 25 pcs
  • Bond Kote Surface Preparation – 5 units
Hopefully we will get some recommendations here.

Draining Fiberglass Pool to Fix Main Drain Leak

The leak company pressure tested the system and it was not from the inside. They mentioned that it was from the outside of that main drain, likely the screw in compression fitting being the culprit. They did a temporary epoxy repair but never really did much.

I don't think repairing the main drain is going to be as simple as draining the pool and swapping in a new drain.

@MAPR-Austin, Would you mind sharing a bit more as to why it may not be as easy as replacing that fitting? I'm trying my best to understand what I may be up against. Thanks

This is why they pay you the big bucks.

I wonder what the chlorination effect of this method typically is?

Would the bucket+poly fill+cal-hypo method work as well or better (or worse) than the Metal Trap for topping-off?

Waterfall disaster

There are multiple ways to address this. As you have seen your current set up is a bit oversized. It can be tweaked to work, but it might end up putting to much load on the pump.
  • Put a tee out of the filter with a valve that can divert some of the water back to pond w/o going to the waterfall. (need to figure out how to get the excess water back to the pool)
  • Put a valve on the inlet side of the pump to restrict the flow of the water into the pump (may overload the pump)
  • make changes to the water as newdude mentioned (you may end up with rapids/whitewater and not a gentile waterfall)
  • make your waterfall larger to handle the flow
  • make the waterfall taller (close to the head pressure of the pump)
  • replace the pump with lower flow pump (you may end up choosing a wrong size pump again)
  • replace the pump with a vsp pump (costly lesson, but will me the most efficient to run)
  • make a small pool of water at the top of the water fall. The small pool would feed the waterfall, kind of like backed up toilet overflowing. The water is the small pool slows down the incoming water from the filter.
You need to figure out how much gpm (max) your waterfall can handle. How is you hose water pressure and flow? if you have good pressure and flow it's usually around 10 gpm. You can also get an estimate by pouring 5 gallon buckets of water down it to get a feel for how much gpm you are looking for (might be possible up to 50 gpm or so if you have enough buckets)

Balancing advice for my situation with high TA, low calcium

Hello all,

I'm getting my pool into good balance after opening a week or so ago. I'm managing chlorine and PH well, but my TA was crazy high, at 200. PH was around 8, so I've been bringing that down each day with muriatic acid. TA has come down to 170 so far. I know I can keep up the acid use to lower it. But my Calcium Hardness is 170, so I need to bring that up.

My question is, should I wait on the Calcium increase until after I get TA in line? Or should I do it first, or does it matter?

thanks.

Metal Trap vs RV Water Softener for top-ups

I feel like you should run a class on this.

You’d be better off building one of those 5 gallon bucket filters loaded up with poly fill....

I considered the bucket before, but since most of my iron is in suspension, I overlooked it. Didn't think of adding a cal-hypo tab to force the precipitation. This is why they pay you the big bucks.

I wonder what the chlorination effect of this method typically is? Figure... 19k gallon saltwater, CYA around 75 and FC usually hovering between 4 and 5 ppm. So... shutoff the SWG and run through the bucket and the FC will start to jump, correct? Probably not bad and will just facilitate faster iron removal (and some staining I suppose).

OK, so that should go a long way towards lowering the iron content of my existing water.

Would the bucket+poly fill+cal-hypo method work as well or better (or worse) than the Metal Trap for topping-off?

Appreciate you letting me pick your brain!

Easytouch Remote turns on then off

I can't tell from the listing... might want to reach out to the seller. Usually there's a sticker on the box with the firmware version, and there should also be one on the back of the card. 2030 is pretty old, so if this really is new then I'd hope it would have 2040. Might want to reach out to the seller.
Thank you - I appreciate the help very much!

Hydro Force Steel Pro Max - New to pools

Hi all,

Hoping to get some clarifications on if this pool can have a skimmer added to it. I see it does not come with one, but feel it would be beneficial with all of the bugs typically get into pools around here.
I have been reading a lot about pucks vs. no pucks and I am not sure what is best?
Shock? Is there a kind I should have? Or should I just have bleach?
