Solar cover differences

I need a solar cover this year. I have always done blue and we have to replace them about every 2-3 years. Is there any noticable difference between the 3 year warranty covers and the 7 year warranty covers? I am looking at the Dohney website if that makes a difference. That was the last place I ordered a solar cover from and lasted the same amount of time as the one I bought from a local pool store.

Note: I will admit we leave ours in the sun when it is off (I have no where wide to leave it), I do have a habit of bringing my chlorine to slam levels with the cover on. I do this when we are going to be leaving for camping and I won't be able to dose the chlorine daily. So I realize I will never get the full life expectancy. We use it to retain heat at nights, bring the temp up in the spring, and to keep the cotton wood out of the pool in the spring.

Quotes for a new build

I am located in North Florida and looking to start a new build. I am interested in building a smaller pool, 14x28. Most quotes include a saltwater system with all pool equipment, 400 sq feet of pavers, 2 LED lights, stone coping, diamond brite finish. I have received 3 quotes so far, and they are pretty scattered. 56k, 64k and 78k. Each company also priced out the sun shelf differently, the most expensive was a 10k upgrade, middle 3k, and the cheapest 1.5k. Can anyone in the region comment on the quotes? Are there any specific upgrades (not aesthetic, type of slimmer, plumbing etc.) you would ask for?

Help Please - Aux Relays Not Working

A picture behind the deadfront panel where the breakers are located, will help us.

Is you pump wired to a relay? Or direct to breaker? Single SPD or VS?

Is your heater wired to the same relay as your pump? Is it on a relay at all?

Have you confirmed voltage on the Line side of the relay for your blower and lights? For the filter pump if on a relay?

I suspect your filter pump is direct to breaker, and all else are through relays. We need to confirm if you have voltage on the line terminals. Methods differ depending on 120v vs 240 items. We can guide you once we have a picture of your wiring.

The lack of a 'click' suggests the relays are not closing. Multiple relay failures are unlikely. We'll get suspicious of the board if we can confirm voltage on line side of all relays.

Need help with Lighting

I am converting to PAL pool & spa 24v lights they are going in a bonded Hayward niche. My plan was to run the two conduits for the lighting into the transformer direct and run the 120 volt from the Jandy aqualink into the transformer. Do I need a junction box to bond the 8 gauge wire to? I assume the low voltage would run into the JB and then to the transformer. Would i need to connect the low voltage to the junction box or can I just run it thru it and into the transformer.

Mixed Instructions - VS Pump & SWG

One thing I should add: If you have the ability to hard wire it to ethernet instead of using the included wifi adapter, I would do that. The wifi adapter actually gets surprisingly decent range, but honestly I feel like the wifi functionality is still somewhat buggy and hardwiring the unit simply involves unplugging the wifi adapter from the PCB and plugging in another ethernet cable.

That being said, I haven’t jumped off my rear to do it yet. I didn’t even mount the wifi adapter. I just wedged it behind the control unit. Until the last 48 hours I’d never had any connectivity issues, and they’ve resolved just now.

And no - I don’t see it as an Alexa device. That doesn’t mean it isn’t. I’m not fully invested in Alexa and I still need to finish setting up my home network.

Ha, I ran mine the entire time of my ONE and only slam that brought me here.
Running it will not be a problem, that is what it is made to do...
Maybe I'll try it out this weekend, then. As for now, though, I will let the pump run 24/7 and add one gallon of bleach to pool daily until test kit arrives and receiving further instruction. I got an email saying kit had shipped.

I'm like you. Wife and I purchased a house (1963 brick split-level) in 2019 so I could renovate it as I find time. Killer F4 tornado passed within 6 miles of home we were living in and I decided then to move to a brick home. Pool came with the house. I do swim in it when I can keep it sanitized.

Pump Losing Pressure - Need Additional Ideas

I will also replace the union gasket coming in to the pump.
You most likely have a leak on the suction side, as many have suggested. A worn or loose impeller may fail to 'build' prime but it sounds like it draws the initial gallon through, it just chokes on air rapidly thereafter.

You don't have any valves, so this really only leaves the items you've already addressed, the pump housing, or the plumbing.

You've confirmed the clear lid on your pump is not cracked? Does not have deviations in the channel where the o-ring rests?

Inspect everything that seals the pump in front of the seal plate. Run the pump for a moment, ideally building that a moment of pressure, and shut it off - listen for whining/high pitched air escaping near mating surfaces and pipe welds.

I am not a smart person. Re: Bioguard Sparkle Up

Hi TFP community. Second season (Indiana) as a pool owner. Prior to opening last year, a friend recommended reading up here. And I did. Last year, with your help, my previously unkempt pool was beautiful all year (thanks!).
Fast forward to this year, opened the pool a few weeks ago, and, for the most part, had the chemistry pretty dialed in. There was a slight haze, and the previous owners left some Bioguard sparkle up in the shed. Without thinking (or reading all the directions), I added a cup directly to the pool, not directly in the skimmer. Since then the pool has been incredibly cloudy and chewing up chlorine.
27k gal, SWG, plaster pool, sand filter.
I drained ~1/4 of the pool and refilled. Prior to attempting SLAM:
pH 7.4
TA 80
CYA 10
FC 0
CH 300
Salt 2500

I added CYA to get it to 30-40, and 12.5% liquid chlorine to get it to 10, per pool math.

2h later
FC 0.5
CC 4.5

I’ve searched and read for hours but haven’t found anyone as dumb as me. Any advice helps, and lesson learned! I didn’t use any witchcraft last year and it was perfect. I promise to never do so again if you guys can save me!

Thanks in advance,
Bobby

Mixed Instructions - VS Pump & SWG

Nope. No scheduling involved in the app. It’s pretty simple. If the unit has power and the flow switch is closed, she makes the chlorine. End of story.
I'm curious.. do you have Alexa? If so, does Alexa recognize the Core Control as a device? Does the app allow you to turn chlorine production on and off?

Mixed Instructions - VS Pump & SWG

Can you give us a bullet list of what you can do/control with the app? Maybe some screenshots?
With the firmware as it stands:

Control:
SWG % with pool cover open
SWG % with pool cover closed
SWG Turbo (100% up to 72 hours)

Read:
Alarms (active and historical)
Chlorine output (24/7/30/90)
Water temp (24/7/30/90)
Salinity (24/7/30/90)
Pool cover open/closed

With the app control, seems unbelievable to me that there would be no way to schedule the SWG to turn on and off during set times.
I suspect this may come in a later firmware, but don’t quote me on that. They’ve built a lot of expansion potential into the circuitry on the control board. I’m hoping they sell the heck out of these units and are able to develop it to its fullest potential.

PB just turned over pool to me, what do I correct first?

Also can you say exactly how you are doing the CH test?

1. 10 ml pool water
2. 10 drops of R-0010 and while mixing on smart stir
3. 3 drops of R-0011L while mixing on smart stir
3. Added R-0012, one drop at a time until color changed to blue. Somewhere between 29-30 drops

Measured at 750 again.

Great. Add 1 gallon per day, pour it in a pencil stream slowly in front of a return. Brush a bit.
Brush the entire pool once a day.
Run the robot if you want, keep pump running 24/7.
Clean or backwash your filter, note clean pressure. when pressure rises 25% clean/backwash again.
Do nothing else, add nothing else until your kit arrives,
Then post a full set of results to your math logs and prompt us in this thread.
I think I'll leave the robot out until the algae is gone. :)

I tried to upgrade to premium version of Pool Math, but my Kindle keeps looping back to home screen. Will have to delve into this further.

I see your logs. Great job.
There is the free version, which you have, it allows you to save one complete log entry, and I believe it will not allow you to log chemical addition. But the calcs work.
The premium version allows you to save all the test data, chemical additions, etc. It's $8 per YEAR.
I think it pays for itself.
YMMV.

Pump Losing Pressure - Need Additional Ideas

Going to replace the impeller - blades seemed thin, and one had a good chip in it. Diffuser looked in good condition, no concerns there.
I also noticed one of the drain plugs looked to be in below average shape, so I will replace that too. I will also replace the union gasket coming in to the pump. Once these new parts arrive, I will try again. Thank you all for your help so far. Unfortunately, nothing glaring so far, but hopefully these replacements and fresh lube on all gaskets will help. Thanks again
