Installed Hayward filter clamp wrong and now it's stuck

Hello All,

I have been setting up my Hayward filter for years and this year I just completely blanked. As you can tell from the picture I installed the spring coil in the middle instead of the end and now the darn thing is stuck and won't release. Additionally the clamp is upside down. I burned through the original screw head trying again and again to get it to release. Any suggestions? Or did I just do something that means I have to buy a new filter?

Where do you buy your good quality expanding rubber winterizing plugs from?

maybe a better idea than paying $35 for 2 from Inyopools.
So the counterpoint to this is that most of the plugs my PB gave me at my first closing in 2012 are going strong. I had them do it with installing the safety cover and I've been doing since, now on pool #2.

Anywho, I'm sure their cost was worked into the safety cover install / closing bill, and i am equally sure they were not cheap. Add 13 years inflation and $17 each isnt outrageous IMO.

I am always more apt to spend on known quality for things that last a decade +. You're splitting hairs for $1.70 a year or even less.

Deep End Bench a goner? Big cracks

@Bperry @ajw22 attached are some more pictures showing a broader view from today (sorry it's overcast), the rebar during build, and the crack on top from 2021 (so you can see progress, which again I believe has paused?). When the pool was built, I had paid for thicker rebar over their standard build. You can see the bench is fully outlined with rebar. I have video of them shooting the gunite in there so I think that means it was not rebound. When I brought up these cracks to the pool company, they asked me to do a bucket test. Basically implying that unless I was losing water and could prove the gunite shell was flawed, I was out of luck. When the plaster was installled, I had a big issue with the builder as the color was entirely off from the sample (many shades lighter). After much back and forth, they agree to not charge me for the pebble upgrade. Looking back, I should have asked for more. I did try for a full chip out and replaster, but they did not react well to that.

Appreciate any other insights you may have on how to proceed. I really don't want to pay an arm and leg to fix this and worst case, I just leave it if it won't progress and I can't DIY some sort of remedy.

Just started testing - what to add

So I just tested my water for the first time using the TF-100 test kit. Results:

FC = 6 ppm
CC = 0 ppm
TA = 130 ppm
Ph = 8.0 ppm
Chlorine = 4

I have always had a locally owned pool company service my pool, but due to costs I decided to due it on my own
Pool - 28,000 gallon salt pool
Intellchlor is set to 80%
I am currently running the system for 8 hours per day

I am thinking I need to add about a gallon of acid. Cut the Intellichlor to 60%. Anything else? The pool looks nice and clear. Thanks

New to SWG

18,

There is really very little difference between your pool now, and after you add the SWCG.. Instead of manually adding chlorine, the SWCG will just do that for you.

You just need to understand how your SWCG works.. They are basically dumb as rocks, because they have no brain.. You must be the cell's brain. It is up to you to routinely test your FC level and then adjust the cell's output up or down depending on the results..

You might want to initially test more often, and then as you get to know your pool, you can can test less and less..

It is best to try not to micromanage your SWCG. Trying to maintain a specific FC number each day is impossible.. It is easier to keep your FC at or above your Target FC.. Never try to keep your FC between your minimum and your Target.

I love my saltwater pool and I think you will love yours also.. :goodjob:

See the saltwater section of this chart... FC/CYA Levels

Thanks,

Jim R.

Working with an HOA Pool!

Hi all, my name is Brian and I am working with a committee of individuals running an HOA Pool in the St Louis area. We just had it replastered so currently going through the daily brushing process. We have found that vacuuming the pool is a challenge with different hands being involved, not trusting how much air will get sucked into the filter system. We are now on the hunt for a pool bot. Here to learn about bots as well as any other topics that come up while caring for a pool this summer.

Zero Entry
T Shape
Roughly 2000 sqft
Up to 5ft depth

Thanks

Clearing up a mesh-covered pool after a soft opening

We are getting ready to do a soft opening and our water is already green. We've got trees next to our pool that drop seeds into the pool until early June so we normally do a soft opening to prevent the pool from turning green until the seeds stop dropping. We waited too late to do the soft opening this year due to an illness and now I don't know what to do. If I could get the pool to clear up some by by doing a SLAM with liquid chlorine, I'd like to do it. I could keep the pool cover unattached near the deep end return so I can test the water and add chlorine. If this won't likely work, I guess we will skip the soft opening and just wait a few weeks to open up the pool when the seeds stop dropping. The water will likely be dark green by then since its so warm and I worry that permanent staining could occur. Opening the pool and taking the cover off now is not an option that I'm willing to deal with because the seeds will clog the filter and it will be hard to clear it up.

Salt cell replacement

Just by appearance do you think i will have room to plumb in the RJ60 and the flow sensor?

Thanks for the advice, i look forward to this project!
Best thing to do is get out the tape measure. It looks tight. The cell is 15 3/4 inches and the flow switch is 4 inches. Id want 2 feet between the elbow and the jandy valve to feel safe doing the plumbing where the flow switch is after the cell per the manual. Hopefully you have the room. Theres plent of installation videos online to watch also before you dive into it.

How much of each?

Treating iron stains-
Just opened pool it has zero chlorine per our guy. According to the AA TREATMENT I should add and metal free algeacide first ( but how much 20k pool) there is no visible algae. Then I ad up to 2 pounds OF AA followed by a flockulant ( how much) run pump without cartridge 24 hours and slowly bring up chlorine and keep ph under 7.2

Let’s see your water after removing winter cover!! **RESURRECTED FOR 2025!**

I kind of hate most of you for your pools looking so great when opened. I did a bad close last year
Yeah but you weren't one of us yet, and now you are. So you have that going for you, which is nice.

When the time comes to close, get a thread going and tag me, @PoolStored, @Mdragger88 and/or anyone else you meet along the way who would be happy to help, and we'll hatch a plan to give you your best chances at opening. (We'd probably all see your thread if you post one, but tag us just in case we missed it).
