Vegas OB! Just got plans back and need some feedback (pics included :) )

That makes my heart happy

The lifetime tag was from long ago. The current one is the pretty badges you see. They all mean the same thing-you have been so kind as to give back.

I REALLY hope you stick around after your pool is done. I need as much help as I can get with new builds. The more people on a build thread the better. It makes it fun and helps them as well!

i truly appreciate you taking the time to let me view your AMAZING project and even let me chip out a piece of that brand new pebble sheen so I can show my plaster guy what I want  I don't think any other community in the world would take care of its members like that lol. I also appreciate all the feedback on my plans which I have modified to include the pvc I will be running for future projects
I can truly say this forum has been a blessing and has saved me from potential heartaches and helped me to make informed choices.

So I ran into my first hiccup [emoji20]
On my design plan the picture shows 4ft to 7ft (see top thread) however, the specs on the side say 3.6 to 5.6. So I emailed the designer and asked will that be a problem when I turn it over to the engineer for him to do his part and got no response for a few days. So I end up giving it to the engineer and just letting him know the correct depths so I can continue moving forward with my plans because I was able to secure a dig date for next Saturday and my engineer decides to draw the plans at the wrong depth . [emoji33]
So when I call the engineer back because I'm about to go pay for the permits he throws a tantrum on the phone for about 5-7 mins and while he's doing this I just continue to apologize and tell him how sorry I am. Once he's finally done I tell him I will have my designer fix it and send him the plans with the correct specs on the side. This was 3 days ago
So the next day I text the engineer and tell him sorry again and how I will have to bring him a gift or Starbucks along with money when I pick up the plans.... no response. The second day I send him a email to just confirm he received the new plans ( me being optimistic and assuming he's not ignoring me)........ no response. Yesterday I called and left him a message..... no response.
So now it's Friday with a dig scheduled for next week and I have no engineering plans. The good thing is during this process I was searching for a backup professional just in case I was getting the cold shoulder, however, the new engineer won't be able to get my plans back till Wednesday which means my dig will be pushed back another week.
I can't lie this is a little frustrating and disheartening but I know things happen for a reason and when it's all said and done a week won't really matter. But I'm still like a little kid and want to swim NOW lol.
Well that's my life story for the last few day, thanks for listening :)

Will, that sounds just like a page out of my life...;) Is there any chance you can "walk the plans through" the county when you get the plans on Wednesday from the new engineer? Frequently, just by explaining the situation to the building department clerk, and asking if there's any way you could help move things along, they can work miracles. Or is that too late for the excavator to know one way or the other? Sorry to hear this, as I know how frustrating it can be when you get these little "hiccups" that mess up your schedule.

Let's just hope that you're getting yours out of the way at the start...;)

He was mad cause the designer messed up twice
But good news he emailed me back this morning about an hour after the post so I picked up my plans and I'm now at the building permit office just waiting [emoji41]

Oh the agony of the department of building permits! I went from one station to the other and watched them punch their little keyboards while I just waited and sweated ...... after about almost 3 hours I left with a victory! Lol
I did have a scare cause they said one of the engineer calculations were off but the auditor didn't read through all the pages [emoji55] I convinced him to call my engineer for clarification cause I was NOT leaving without my permits . And when a almost 6ft4" man that's 235 pounds smiles and asks nicely most people oblige
So in the end I received my permits and my dig is on track for this week coming up.
Next step is HOA who says as long as I have a permit from the city they approve the plans.... I will go in there on Monday with my pretty smile so I can get another approval stamp :)

We are lucky here in socal. There is a company called "pool engineering" no joke and guess what they do? Anyways, they have several engineers who just make standard plans all day long and copy them off for designers. They can also send them through email. The best thing they do is send an entire book of all of their details to all the building departments in LA, OC, and Riverside county and the building departments adopt their details. So, when we used them for our pool details we didn't even have to prove anything they were already on the approved list. The only thing they didn't engineer was the retaining wall for the swim up bar because it backs up to another retaining wall. We have a structural engineer who responds in minutes via email that we've used for other projects and he did the calcs and details for that. Did you have to find an engineer or did you have something similar to "pool engineering"?

I have an equipment question for the experts out there.
The plumber suggested that since I have 2 pumps (3hpvs intellioflow and 2 hp wisper) and since I only have 1 water feature and a stub for the future for a water slide that I can use the VSP to run the pool and sheer decent and I can use the whisper flow to run the spa and that I would be able to run more jets in the spa.
So my questions are as follows:
1. Is the 3hp VSP sufficient to run the pool and water feature effectively (I know I will not run the sheer decent often except when entertaining)
2. How many jets can I run off a 2hp whisper pump and still get great action in the spa
3. Does the whisper pump hook up to the ez touch 8 so I can control it by phone and also just set it to run the spa and spillover 45 mins a day ( I read on the forums that's the most I should run the spa and spillover for cleaning)
4. Can I run the sheer decent and the pool circulation independently off the one VSP ( this is important to me just in case I add the slide later. They are going to "T" a stub off of the sheer decent)
Thanks for the help

I don't like that idea especially with automation. Keep the VS pump for the pool/spa returns and your second pump for your waterfeatures. Waterslides only need a surprisingly small amount of flow so the remaining water can be directed to the sheer descents.

What's the plumbers logic behind his suggestion?

A Whisperflo is not an ideal pump for water features. Why not just use another VS or if money is a concern then one of Pentair's AFP pumps?

I have a 3HP WhisperFlo for my waterfall and I can unequivocally say it was the WRONG PUMP to use. An AFP waterfall pump is much better. If the water features don't provide enough return side head loss, then a WhisperFlo will operate well outside its efficiency limits and cavitate. I can actually get my WhisperFlo to cavitate if i don't use a shutoff valve to add backpressure to the waterfall line.

Do as Brian says - use the VSP on the pool/spa and get an efficient AFP pump for the water features.

Can't speak from experience but we also chose a vsp for pool and spa control and a waterfall feature pump just for bubblers and waterfall

I think the logic behind it was using the second pump to power the jets since I wanted extra spa jets and I mentioned doing the tri seat jet like I seen posted on here.
I'm guessing the VSP is just a few hundred dollars more than the whisper so I will just go that route
So now this poses another question .... can 2 VSP be hooked up to the ez touch 8?
What is the configuration if I have a spa, pool, and sheer decent, and a stub for a future slide or water feature.
Also how many jets can I run with a second VSP

Yes, the ET-8 can control up to two IntelliFlo's.

The IntelliFlo is an up-rated 3HP pump with a service factor of ~1.5. So you're looking at a pump that, running at full-bore, can put out 4.5HP. That should be MORE than enough for your spa. If you want anymore than that, add an air blower to the air pipe.

Can I run 8-9 jets off that pump and still use it for the water feature since I most like won't be using them at the same time. And if so would I be able to use the automation to control them independently or together
Sorry for all the questions but I'm new and still learning and some of this stuff doesn't make sense to me.
I appreciate everyone's help
