Think we have a suction problem

Hi all!! We have an in ground pool with a sand filter pump. This year after opening we are having a problem with the pump and don’t know where to start looking to correct the issue. Sand was replaced last year. Checked the O ring and there is no visible crack. The pump is having trouble priming and when we run the vacuum it isn’t sucking like it should. Pressure is reading normal at this point. The return jets are sputtering. There is sufficient water in the pool. Any advice would be so helpful! Thank you!

Possibly:
Weir doors not operating properly, water level not up to mid skimmer height, lube pump lid gasket and one or two pump drain plugs. One other place if you have a pump union on the suction side of the pump that will also have a gasket that may be pulling in air.

It sounds like air is getting in on the suction side of your circulatory system. That's between the pump and the skimmers. find that suction leak and it will solve your issues.
This article may help. Suction Side Air Leaks
Thank you for the article! We followed this. Found the O ring was cracked. Got a new one and lubed it. The pump took forever to prime, did a great job for about 15 minutes when it finally started going and then the return jets started sputtering again. When we pour water over the pump lid it starts swirling like it should and the return jets stop sputtering. Do you think it could be the lid? There aren’t any visible cracks in the lid but based off the test it’s most likely in that area correct?

Thank you! We didn’t realize there was a gasket. We just pulled it and it’s cracked. We will lube it and lube the plugs also.

Maybe when poured water runs down over the pump inlet/ possible union it's doing something there too or even the drain plug. Hold a slow garden hose over the inlet pipe and see what happens.
