Testing kits question - new pool fill

So Folsom? Most of that water in that area is pretty low in CH. So adding some is good. I would go to 250 ppm CH for now and see how it stabilizes. Pool builder likely waiting as right now you are getting some from the plaster as your CSI is so negative. Not necessarily a good thing. CSI should be about 0.5 right now.

Maybe I'll just tell builder I'm taking over for the remaining of 30 day start up.

The Chem guy is doing an orientation At 30 days + turning on salt cell and adding salt. Then will be passing off to me.

I am pretty sure ours comes from a local lake (Lake Berryessa).

Going out to test shortly 👍

Just to see if I got how the app works correctly:

I tested and logged my results. Used the effects of adding screen to see how much I need to add to reach whatever level I need.

Then I add said chemical and log the addition. I did this with FC but my home page number didn't move. Do I need to retest and log the new value to get it to change? It doesn't automatically change the value for me after I log the chemical and amount addition correct?

I have a new phone and want to make sure my app isn't buggy. Thanks!

Did you upgrade to premium ? If not you need to delete the one log you can save in order to save a new one. Its $8 for the year if you haven't and we can see them too. Many times we can avert an issue by something you didn't spot, or reverse engineer why XYZ happened from your history. It's freaking $8 and worth every penny. Lol.

Also go into settings and allow sharing so we can see them.

Oh yah, paid for premium earlier today. 👍

Will enable sharing now.

Here are screen shots:

Test 0 FC, logged it.

Added 1 gallon which should add 4-ish FC, logged my added chlorine of 1 gal

Then home scree I was thinking to see that 4 FC but it's still 0?

Tests go to the home screen. Additions go to the LOG. If you didn't TEST a result, it didn't happen (on the home screen).

Makes sense, because you don't know what your addition actually did you your pool, until you test it.

Didn't get to add CH or acid - will do today and also test my fill water.

PB gave me those test strips in a bottle which I know are junk but I used it this AM before heading to work just to see if the chlorine test will at least show a color change (before no change at all).

Turned light purple so at least I know there is sanitizer in there --- better be I added a gallon yesterday 😀

Perfect. Pre TFP I went 6.5 years algae free keeping the test strip grape-lollipop purple. I had no clue how much chlorine it was, but I knew it was 'enough'. (Free and clear above min).

Got over my fear of adding acid to pool yesterday...went well! I followed instructions on here and no splashing occurred. Also calculated out only adding 0.4 worth which was .25 gallons/32oz for me.

I was on the product page (leslies pool supply store) and it says not to add more than 16oz at a time. But I think they are assuming 10k gallon pool?

Am I ok to do 32oz due to my size pool? Thanks!Screenshot_20230901_111139_Brave.jpg

One thing is clear. Two things are not clear.

CLEAR: Stay off of Leslie's pages.

Unclear:
What is the degree baume/percentage on the muriatic?
Is you pool 22,000 as your account details state or is it 14,000 as your signature states?

In a 14K pool, using 31.45% Muriatic will reduce pH by .4. I would use that as your upper limit on acid additions. Always use pool math. Always reduce pH in .4 or less increments.

31.5%

22,000k

My apologies I need to go in and update my info in TFP...it's on my to do list for this long Holiday weekend. 😀

Yeah I added 32oz per Pool math calculator - calculated out a 0.4 decrease in PH. But I saw that Leslie 16oz warning and got a little worried.

I will stay off that website for sure lol.

Alright did my battery of test this morning. I added 1 gallon of chlorine last night. This morning using the legit chlorine test with powder(1st time using this one)...got FC at 7.0.

I notice I lose 3-4 FC during the day it seems. So using pool math, I'll need to add 1 gallon per day to keep me at the 3.0 at end of day after Sun burnoff.

I am also going to add some CYA today, tested at 20-25 ish...going to bump it to 30ppm per the Pebble tech start up guidelines.

Once I get the SWG going in 2 weeks and salt added, I will bump CYA up according to pool math SWG guidelines.

Sounds like a solid plan?

I didn't think I'd need 1 gallon of chlorine a day tho! Maybe I have hidden alge from the PB Chem start up guy not taking care of my pool for 1 week straight and basically having 0 FC. He did have 1 puck in but I tested around 0.2-0.5 FC.

I also never realized how much gunk is in the air! We had a very windy day yesterday and I live near the hills/fields...plus my neighbor next door is doing some driveway/backyard work with heavy equipment running all day bunch of dirt/dust everywhere.

Either all that ended up in my pool OR maybe I have some algae? Last night when pool lights were on I can see TONS of particles floating in pool after I brushed the walls/floors. Water looked clear but the pool lights showed another story.

Also add my 10 year old son got his first ever ear infection...doctor called it swimmers ear.

I told him let PB Chem guy balance water first but he was in pool every day all day. Plus I don't think he dried out ears very well after getting out...lesson learned with this being our very first pool.

Well now that I realized PB Chem guy sucks and basically comes every 7-10 days and didn't really do anything....I text PB and Chem guy I am taking over. No push back, he said OK when do you want to do pool school orientation and we'll get you scheduled. 👍

No. You are learning and need more wiggle room than landing at 3 at the end of the day. Land at 5.

In a couple weeks you need to jack your CYA level for the SWG and don't want to extend it because you had to slam first.

Anytime you wonder, ever, Overnight Chlorine Loss Test.

Dont come ask if you should, just do.

Instead, come tell us *why* you are doing an OCLT and we'll high five you and help pass the time waiting for the results.

1 gallon of 10% is 4.5 ppm for you. Whether it's a warm week in CA or the chlorine isn't perfectly 10%, a gallon a day is about right.
I also never realized how much gunk is in the air!
This time of year the environment sheds like its one last hurrah. I'm currently getting pollen like dust on the pool floor. (And the patio. And the cars. And the everything)
Also add my 10 year old son got his first ever ear infection...doctor called it swimmers ear.
That can happen even when properly chlorinated. I dunno if the trapped water in the ear goes stagnant or what, but I've gotten it from the shower in the cold months.

Thanks newdude!

I will plan to land at 5 by days end. Heading out to Walmart they had about 10 cases of chlorine left on shelf last week, Ill buy up whatever they have left.

2 more weeks until SWG can turn on and salt goes into pool. Counting the days down! I can see now why a SWG is recommended...pouring chlorine in everyday is getting old fast for me 😆

Also random thought but how do pool companies do it with chlorine if they only come once a week? Like they basically pour a ton of chlorine to get levels up to 25+ then it burns off during the week and rinse/repeat 1 time a week during their visit?
