Small Pool Build - Brisbane, Australia [emoji1037]

Well, we had unexpected progress today! Hubby came home at midday to find the tilers prepping for pavers and tile. They were told not to let dogs out by the supervisor, so they carefully shut the gate behind them, but didn’t replace the little bit of wire that stops the dogs from flicking the latch. Rookie error! Apparently it took them half an hour to find them. When they did, the dogs came straight to them and let them bring them home by their collars. Both were looking very guilty when hubby arrived home. I really appreciate them taking the time to find them and bring them home. Not street smart dogs at all. They are now fenced off for tomorrow so we don’t have a repeat incident. Hubby said the prep was quite a process. On top of the concrete shell they laid a wet bed of mortar, then a dry bed and another wet bed on top. Hubby said they were very particular. They also picked up our steps aren’t even (which we new but thought couldn’t be fixed now), so they will be fixing that for us too. Of course it rained after they left! Tomorrow should be clear. A little rain on Sat. then that should be it for the rain for at least a week. Electrician came by to take a look and was very happy with how everything has been prepared. The pool equipment will go on one new circuit and the heat pump another. He will come to do his work when the fence is going in as it needs to be bonded. Also getting some new down lights inside. He was lovely and very positive about how none of it would be a problem. All in all a productive day for a change.

LIZ! No way! What a heart pounding day!!! Loose dogs (did they call you when the dogs got out or just run them down?), BIG work done! Problem with steps fixed! (Just about anything can be fixed at this point. Is there anything else that needs to be tweaked?) What a day! Glad that one is over!

No phone call... thank goodness! I think I’m glad I didn’t know until after the fact. They are big dogs so I’m glad they weren’t too scared to go after them and kind enough to do so. Our black dog is very wary of strangers so I’m really surprised she came to them when they called. She must have known she was in trouble! Plus, they didn’t even know their names. What chaos! I can’t even imagine!

I can’t think of anything else that needs fixing. There is a little raised spot where a block of wood was left after the concrete was shot. I would like that little lip chipped off so that the plaster isn’t thin in that spot. Will ask them tomorrow. Turns out they use a different brand of grout than I’d been looking at. They match to a similar colour in their range, whatever they think is best I e said. Not too light, not too dark. They were such lovely men, but did say we have the best tilers in Brisbane on the job, so I’d say they are pretty good. They don’t come across as the type to big note themselves. We will see!

I bet those guys gave up their lunch to get the dogs back!!! LOL "Here doggy, doggy! I have food for you!!!" BOOM new best friends!

Glad it is all working out AND they are using such care and take pride in their work!

Could have been worse with the dogs - They could have walked over fresh mortar and left paw prints every where...

That would have taught them to not shut the gate correctly...:D

I see you have been copping a fair amount of rain over in QLD - Nothing but dryness down here in SA.

Forecast here for early next week is for mid 30's temps!

Hi there! Yes, we’ve been getting the remnants of all these cyclones. Your weather sounds perfect to me, especially for pool building. Our temps have dropped. Hoping we’ll still have a few nice days here and there, preferably after the pool is complete!

Dogs would have loved the opportunity to walk all over the fresh mortar. Probably loved their unsupervised walkies more! They’re both shattered tonight.

What’s been happening? Are you getting ready to dig? I keep forgetting that your school holidays are later than ours. Ours are almost half over.

Wow! Good crew. You are in the lead again. I haven't seen my guys since they dropped off and spread gravel. lol....

You have coping... we don’t! Has all your electrical stuff been sorted? It’s quite frustrating when there’s no progress, with no sign of when things will start again. Hopefully you’ll get a nice surprise like we did today, with some just showing up to do something... minus almost loosing your dogs!

Almost ready to dig...

My rear fence is being replaced hopefully within the next two weeks and then the dig can go ahead once the yard is cleared of some small trees and shrubs (should only take a day for clearing).

PB is coming out for a final detailed check and discussion next Friday - so hopefully we will be good to go soon...!

School holidays are the last two weeks of April down here.

That’s exciting! Getting close! Don’t forget to update your thread when you have process. Sounds like you are all organised and pretty much ready to go.

Coping positioned, but not yet glued down. When the tilers opened the crates of pavers, they weren’t happy with quite a lot of it. They called the pb, who called the tile shop and demanded replacement pavers be delivered immediately... and they were! I actually think those pavers were fine, just had a bit more character. I think I’ll be glad the tilers are so picky though once it’s all down. Also, the great waterline grout colour dilemma has been solved. It was funny as I was driving to work this morning thinking how I didn’t think our chosen colour would go well on the step treads. I almost called them but had no idea what I was going to switch to. When hubby got home the first thing they said to him was that they weren’t sure our grout choice was the best match as it would likely fade and also clash with the paving grout. They suggested we go with the same coloured grout as the pavers, which is jasmine. Very different to what we had chosen, but funnily enough was one of the first I considered. Anyway, that worked out well, as I’d pretty much given up trying to find a good match. They’re back Monday to keep going and should be finished Tuesday or Wednesday, weather permitting. Oh and fencing company coming to assess the area on Sunday morning. Really happy to see things finally moving. The travertine pavers look so much better in real life. This photo was taken after work as it was getting dark.

Liz, I am in love with your tilers! SO much right about what they are doing and not doing! So glad they feel they can give you input on things AND it is good input! Give them a hug  or  for me! LOL

I think my hubby is in love with our tilers too! He messaged me at work about the grout and about them refusing to lay the poor quality tiles. He ended the text with I’m very happy with them... which in man talk I think means I loves them [emoji23] He also gave them a carton of beer as they were leaving to enjoy over the weekend. He figured they’ll do a better job if they have it now rather than at the end. They were very appreciative.
