Small Pool Build - Brisbane, Australia [emoji1037]

I don't know if there's any truth to this - only the freaking out of our plasterer, but I believe it's a good idea not to allow sealer to drip onto the bare concrete. To me, it makes common sense that it could hurt bonding of plaster to concrete. Hopefully someone with knowledge of it can prove me right or wrong.

That is a very good point that I hadn’t thought of. It makes sense that the sealant may affect how the pebble takes to the shell. We will wait just in case, unless the sealant guy plans to cover the pool. We could possibly even do that ourselves considering how small it is. Definitely won’t be letting sealant drip onto my concrete after hearing this. Don’t want to take the chance after all the plaster problems going around here at the moment! Thanks so much for mentioning it!

They did! Being the same coloured grout as that used with the travertine ties it all in I think. I did notice that one of the three issues I had isn’t completely solved, though it’s better. I think they’ve left now for good but will being it up with the supervisor and see if anything can be done. If not, I can live with it. Overall I’m very happy with the work they’ve done.

Wow your project is cruising along nicely!! The decking is superb. Your project will be wrapped up in no time. We have had yet more rain and had an unexpected freeze in April... The concrete guy is way behind but our project is in the que for decking. People in town with pools have told us not to dye the decking brown because it makes it too hot.... Not sure what to do there.

Congrats!!!!

Thanks Iain. We are about to come to another compete stop for around a month waiting for our fence. Without a fence and approval we can’t install the mini pebble here. Approval may take more than one attempt realistically. The way the fence needs to climb the rock retainer may complicate things and they don’t just measure height but angle. Some things are considered stepping points etc. We are hoping the fencing contractor gets it right first go since that’s his thing, but it also depends on his perception of the regulations versus the inspectors. In my head I’m roughly looking at mid May for water. Then everything has to cure etc before we can use it. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is the first day of winter, June 1st lol.

As for your delays, I really feel for you and know exactly how you feel. It’s disappointing looking at the forecast knowing no work will go ahead. You will get to swim this summer and this will be a distant memory. A for the coloured concrete, the darker the finish the hotter it will be. Maybe while you have the time, look at your options by pulling the lighter colours out of your coping and finding a similar colour for the concrete?

Keep us posted when you have action!

The supervisor called me today so mentioned I would prefer the sealing waited until after pebble and why. He assured me that not one drop of sealant would touch the concrete and that his guy does it all very carefully by hand. No slopping or pouring or splashing. Hopefully I can be here for it to keep an eye on it, but happy to go ahead now. Also it’s good to know it is actually a thing. Sealant should never touch the concrete for the reasons you suggested. They are also going to render the exposed edges. This wasn’t in the concrete and we were going to deal with it when we resurfaced the adjoining concrete path and patio. Very happy that it will be finished off properly. Just asked for a basic render to tidy it up. We have been so happy with our pb overall. Everything seems to have been done to best practice so far.

All of that makes my heart happy! :sun:

It makes my heart happy too, and I’m not easy to please!

I guess you are now starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel...:snorkle:

Slowly, Costas. Part of me is still annoyed we couldn’t get a fibreglass pool in here. We would have been swimming by Christmas 2017 rather than Christmas 2018 [emoji53] We are happy with the result so far though and have been so busy around the yard that we haven’t really noticed how long it’s taking.

Thanks Brent! So hot here in Brisbane today 32*C. Neighbours are in their pool [emoji474]*??.

I have just been out and had a good look at the paving, and the lip that I thought was still there near the skimmer is now flush! Very strange. I sent the pb a message Thursday morning about it saying I could live with it if I had to, but that it hadn’t been fixed properly. I wonder if someone came out either Thursday or Friday while I was at work? Very happy to see that today!

LIZ! You have quite the PB............that is awesome!!!

Kim:kim:

It is! I think I had to look 3 or 4 times to be sure I was seeing what I thought I was seeing!

Had a little look around the pool section of our local Bunnings (like Lowe’s). The shelves were filled with all sorts of products - cloud stop, clarifier, algecide etc. I found chorine, salt (although there was ‘special’ salt that keeps your water clear - will be staying away from that one) and chlorine. Couldn’t find MA but guessing it’s kept in a different place to the other chemicals. There’s also a little computerised test station where you can place your water sample and it tells you exactly which magic potions you need for your pool [emoji849] Is the photo of what I think is CYA correct? Can’t imagine needing much if any after the pb gets the pool up and running but will have a packet on hand. Picked up some skimmer socks and a couple of face masks. Still need overflow hose, but didn’t have time today.

Wow! So fencing that we were told had a 4 week lead time is being installed next Thursday, the 26, delivered this Wednesday. I’ve managed to line up the heat pump installation for the same day. Hubby is currently working on some sort of plumbing project with lots of adult words being said [emoji15] Lined up a plumber to come and install a new outdoor tap that will feed the waterslide. Just trying the figure out best location. So much going on after long delays. Very happy our pb is doing his best to have our pool finished within the contract time, but don’t mind if we end up going over. No helping the weather.

I had to go look up that kind of acid and found this link: cyanuric acid vs Isocyanuric acid I learned something already today! THANKS!

How cute is that little machine..........look it even has a place to put your used guess test strips!

The muriatic acid will be outside. Ours comes in a box with two jugs in it.

Man when they start moving they ALL start moving!! SWEET!

Poor hubby....Have some of this  ready for when he comes back in!

Thanks for the link Kim! Interesting.

Hubby’s still at it and it’s 8.15pm. Almost finished. Four trips to Bunnings later...

Yes, very cute little guess, I mean test strip machine. I’m sure they make a packet out of the products they sell based on its readings.

Have organised a skip and kanga (mini bobcat thingy) for later in the week so we can get moving on the front yard. At least just dispose of the mountain of rubble and rubbish that we have created from all our work and level off the yard a bit. Nothing will grow now, so will likely leave it until spring and decide then if we need to top soil and turf. Will be good to tidy up the eyesore that has been our front yard for 3 months.

I say throw some rye seed on the front yard after you get is leveled to give you some green there and to keep the dirt in place until you get to it in the Spring.

4 trips??? Yeap that sounds about right LOL The last trip is usually for one tiny thing that costs a nickel!

Hubby spoke to our rear neighbours today and got the go ahead to modify the boundary fence from their side. They have lived there for 17 years and us 10 and other than a quick hello over the fence we’ve never met. Such lovely people according to hubby. They also said to trim their trees as much as we need to, to comply from their side. I don’t think the trees will be a problem but it’s lovely to have their permission to do what we need to.

Had a plumber out to install a new outdoor tap that will be primarily used to supply the waterslide. We had thought the easiest position would be on the side of the house near the pool area, as we have a very accessible subfloor with all our services and so did the plumber until he went to drill through. His foot long masonry bit got stuck. He couldn’t believe how thick our walls are. There is no getting that thing out, but luckily he was drilling below where our concrete path is. It’s currently cut for hubby to plumb in drainage to storm water so the end sticking out will be covered by concrete. Extra steel reinforcement for our already strong foundations [emoji23] Plumber basically said no option but to come back when the electrical work is done so he could put it closer to the equipment area (but obviously not too close to power). We came up with another solution, which is to run it from further down across another section of cut concrete and alongside the pool pipe work. The tap will be attached to the side boundary fence. This is actually a much better position anyway. Funny how things work out. He will be using a special pipe designed to be run under/through concrete. I’m sure it will cost a bit more but will be well worth it as neither of our current out door taps are particular close to the pool. Hopefully this tap will go in tomorrow.

Hubby has finished his plumbing project and is happy with his work. He has plumbed the channel drain and the ag pipe from the French drains and the overflow into a pit, which feeds straight into our storm water drain. Any overflow from the pit will run off into another French drain that runs down the side of our steep side path. He’s tested it with the hose and all works well. Meant to get a lot of rain tomorrow so that will be a good test. Bonus is while he had everything apart he was able to replace the section of downpipe that was crushed during excavation. They even sold it in the same colour as our house paint, so no need to paint. Skip delivered tomorrow.

Sorry for the novel... I think I’ve been reading too many of Dirk’s comments [emoji6]
