Figured I would put this here so that newbies can follow as well :) so my pool has seen much better days lol It has been a weird winter here in SoCal and we have been bombarded with rain (imagine that!). I have had to drain the pool considerably 6 times already and at that point I decided to leave it be over the winter knowing I would have to do this to prep for opening so tomorrow morning will start the slam.

My plan in the morning is:
1. Remove the kreepy krauly and soak the hoses & vac in bleach water then lay out to dry as well as the thermometer tied to the ladder.

2. Full battery of tests on the water (I am predicting low CYA, 0 FC, who knows on CC and high PH)

3. Brush with the big brush then take smaller brush around corners and finally the tooth brush into the skimmer area. 2x a day until done.

4. If needed dose with MA, start my CYA in the sock at the jet and bring up the FC to slam level...

From there my checks will hit once an hour until it holds a little then move to 2 hours etc... I will keep progress and pics posted here and include bleach counts etc... :)

And the prep has begun [emoji23][emoji23]

6:15am - removed timers from pump and turned pump on

6:30am - cleaned entire test kit and refilled with all new regents (thanks Rebecca!!)

6:45am: rigged a water bottle to the pole to get sample water because let's face it... I am not sticking my arm in cold grungy water lol Left water bottle in house to warm up.

First test results:

FC: 0
CC: 0 (this will change soon)
PH: 8.2 or higher
TA: 130
CH: 320
CYA: 0

Adding 56oz of MA
Adding 60oz of CYA (sock)

Then will retest PH and try to get the few leaves out of the bottom, add 192oz of 10% and then brush the pool

Alright update :) we added 52oz of MA and then retested PH a bit later and it was a perfect 7.2....

Put 3lbs of CYA in a sock and put it to the side... I decided to test FC for Ammonia before continuing just in case but I didn't think that was a problem. The massive rains & draining did me in lol

Added 176oz of 10% to bring me to 10ppm and tested at 10 min to see if FC was holding and it was 10 [emoji106]

Now it was time to start so I rigged up my sock in front of return..

Started cleaning the vacuum in my massive bleach water bucket [emoji23][emoji23] then proceeded to brush until I couldn't hold my arms up anymore....

Retested FC now:

FC: 9.5
CC: 0

Adding more to bring it to 10...

Correction... too late to edit lol

SLAM is 12 FC so after the last test at 9.5, I added 48oz (easier to measure) of 10% to bring it to 12 [emoji106] Will test again in an hour or so

Your pool already looks better overall with the brushing! Your poor arms! I RX a bubble bath with wine in a BIG cup to sip on while soaking away your sore muscles!

What do your clothes look like? Got many "polka dots" on them?

So in odd events of the year... I have not had to redose the pool all day with bleach *shrug*.... It has been holding at 13 FC since the dose this afternoon... just seems odd to me given how much algae was in there but could be the really cold water and no direct sunlight making it slower too...

Either way, it has been at slam level all day I hope [emoji23][emoji23] I have pulled the water from the same place all day and with the same water bottle rig I have used since 6am [emoji848][emoji848]
