Saltwater Aurora all-resin pool build thread!

OK, I was gone all day yesterday, went to Home Depot this morning to pick up a few things, and then worked on my return. I installed a new valve and union, and by the time I got all that finished it was getting late and the dogs were rioting for their supper. So instead of doing anything more with the skimmer right now, I detached the connection, and sanded down the old sawed off barb a bit more. I also jammed in another o-ring in on top of the current one, applied pool lube and reattached. Water is now above the skimmer bottom, and i didn’t see any dripping last time I went out there. I’m afraid to look again!

Doesn’t mean that it won’t leak when the pump is on, but I simply have to get some chlorine in the pool. So unless I have more than a drip somewhere, I’m going to wait to do anything more with the skimmer until daughter is off work and can help me, it’s too hard to do that one by myself. I hope to wait until it is warmer to put in the new skimmer and install my valve and union. The water is way too cold for me right now, and replacing the skimmer is an inside-the-pool job!

Junior is trotting around the pool right now cleaning, bless him!

By the way, any useful hints on how to remove purple pvc primer from cuticles and fingernails? I had a slight mishap with my can of primer!

Sigh. Guess who hooked everything up without noticing that the skimmer is now on the left side of the return, when before it was on the right side?

Quick !! Hop in the pool and look at it again. It’ll be it be right again. Phew.

This has been a comedy of errors from day one! (Well, right now I’m not laughing, but I’m sure I will laugh about it someday)

Ok, so after my bone-headed move, I got the plumbing reversed and pump is running. So far, no leaks, hallelujah. But I’m going to need to buy new pump and filter soon because the aesthetics of the thing are going to drive me NUTS. Short trip, at least!

Really good circulation and oh my word, the pollen. I ran pump for twenty minutes and had to empty skimmer basket! I looked over the edge and almost had a heart attack until I realized the large mass swirling around on the bottom was more pollen, and not some animal that fell in!

Y’all, take a few days off from work when setting up new pool. That way you have time to get everything done, instead of rushing. I do have two slow drips, but no time to deal with until Sunday. its not keeping me from filtering and getting chemistry right, so I’m working on that. Junior is in right now tackling the pollen... surface is much better but there’s a ton on floor of pool!

I am so glad I'm hiring someone to install so I can call them if something isn't right and make them fix it! I don't have the patience for DIY stuff, and my husband is pretty good, but not with this major of a project.
But we also just refinanced our mortgage because I know this stuff ain't cheap!

I did have installers, but had them leave the plumbing to me. But my first major headache was them gluing the hose barb into the skimmer - if I could have given them a lot more supervision, that wouldn’t have happened! So even with installers, I would definitely take the day off so you can keep an eye on things.

'Lucky' for me, I was on a COVID-Imposed furlough the week mine was installed last Summer. But I can second the notion of being around during the install. It helped with little things that would save me time later, like asking them to pretty-please install my grounding block to one of the wall bolts when they were fastening the wall.

I also did the plumbing myself, although while I had planned on eventually upgrading to PVC that wasn't necessarily by design day 1. The installer only had the 6-foot hoses that came with the pump -- of course, my pump electrical outlet had to be > 6 feet from the pool per code, so I naturally needed longer than 6 feet of piping to reach from pump to pool. No glued surprises, though.

So how’d you do with the drips ? I was busy most of the weekend so apologies if i missed it posted somewhere else. Rest assured though I was rooting for you while ferrying the kids all over town. :)

Haven‘t dealt with yet - only had one day this weekend (we went to Epcot on Sat) so I decided to wait until this weekend. My daughter and I are both off on Friday and I have a whole list, drips included, for us to work on!
