S200 Controller

Maybe you bought a trim level without any programming capability?

The lower trims used to have a control module with all the buttons as the high level trims but some of the buttons weren’t functional.
Wonder if they are cutting cost, my SE had to bigger power supply but pentair said “ automation mode wasn’t included” and wouldn’t help me make it work but I eventually did.

Yes that's my guess too; my unit came with a control unit PN = 99956032 which is the basic one.

I found out that North American units can be equipped with:

99956034 - basic control unit
99956035 - pro control unit with automatic and scheduling function

I also found out that 99956033 is the control unit PN for the European ones, however it's listed only for s300 support and not for s200, hence I'm wondering: if I buy the 99956033 pro unit, would it work with my my s200 considering that North American s200 can work with both basic and pro control units?

I don't think that s200s are firmware locked to a specific control unit......or at least I hope so!

Any hints?

I would think you can buy the other controller & it should work. They are interchangeable.
The one you showed in the pic doesn’t have automation mode capability.

I sold my control unit on eBay so might look there is that’s an option

The S200 is still advertised as having both weekly timer and automation mode (Here, under Tech Specs/Connectivity and Automation), so I would first contact the seller and make sure the right power supply was included. I think they box some of the parts together at shipping -- my Explorer E30 had the pleated filters I paid extra for in the box. So there might have been a mistake there.

I'm 99.9% sure the robot doesn't know or care about the power supply, firmware or otherwise. Effectively, best I can tell, the robot itself is always in "automation mode" -- when the power comes on, it starts its cycle, and internally times when to stop at the robot. The power supply is just a timer on that power to the robot. That's true for the single cycle robots (S200) that have just 2 wires; the higher end models with more cycles might have more communication.

Ironically, "automation mode" is actually the simplest mode -- it's just a passthrough when power comes on (with an off timer, but that isn't really needed when connecting to your own on/off timer). There was a thread where someone built their own power supply with the right voltage, and it effectively behaved as if in "automation mode". So it would be troubling if Maytronics is "simplifying" things with a power supply that requires a push for each run with no way to bypass.

Thanks, do you then think that's swapping the control unit with a PRO one, retaining the very same S200, would do the job?

The distributor from which I've got the unit seems dubious cause my s200 has 2 pin cable; they say 3 pins are needed.

Could you please check if your s200 equipped with automations have 3 or 2 pins?

I can confirm that my nautilus cc cable has 2 pins & my controller has the weekly timer & automation mode. My bot has been running on automation mode for 3 seasons.

I cannot really read italian but it appears as if the italian s200 doesn’t come equipped with automation mode or weekly scheduling from the factory like the us version so they didn’t make a mistake.

That said, the other controller should do what you want & be compatible.

I have a pool with a Triton has the multi button control but it's a 2 pin wire and the only button that does anything is the big power on/off button. I've tried several times to no avail. Wondering if there's a sequence via the buttons to make it do more. As it's been said the bot doesn't know the difference and the control is definitely multi function.

Apologies, I missed that this was an Italian version -- in my defense, how could I have guessed from the cryptic username "ItalianPoolGuy" or the "Italy" in the profile? :)

In any case, good luck -- the other power supply should work. The distributor is probably confusing "automation mode" with the additional cycle type etc control in S300-class robots that might require the 3rd pin.

Like I was saying, "automation mode" in the power supply is actually just (sort of) disabling the timer/switch control in the power supply, passing through power right away every time it gets power. The power supply then blindly shuts off (i.e. it doesn't know when the robot actually finished) after ~3 hours, based on seeing its light on after the robot has finished.
