Riverside, CA - Backyard Overhaul

I like both 1 and 2. Although 1 does remind me of all the drywall nook "plant holders" designers put on the 80's-90's SoCal staircases.

What is the name of that white waterproofing on and around the spa?

It's Super Blockade by Merlex. I like this waterproofer because it's rated for both the positive and negative sides of infinity walls. Most are only good for one side.

Several manufacturers recommend it for their glass tile installations too...

Well then, just paint the entire pool with a nice thick coating of Super Blockade and you’re done!! You can throw some crushed up beer bottle glass on it to add some Bling!

I got asked a bunch of questions on how I did the notches in the beams so here's a couple videos to show how I do it.

And here's smacking them in place:

I pre cut all the rafters on the ground, drilled them and rifled them up top....106 notches and 22 decorative cuts...a long and tiring day - not to mention it was 90 degrees :(

Next time you need company, let me know. I’d have a blast being a substitute Wanger for a day ;)

(And I’d probably learn something useful ...)

Just about any day would be fine. I'm all alone...

I was trying to muscle one of those beams in to place and it turned on me. I almost fell into the deep end of the pool and then would have had that beam land on top of me... Dead

Dude....not cool. Safety harness bro, SAFETY ... HARNESS!!!!

At least you weren’t wearing flip-flops like some people that build pools....I wonder how their house sale went

Mrs Flops has posted a few pictures of the renovation at their new house and Mr Flops has been busy buying pool equipment on my SCP account! They must be doing fine...

Thanks for sharing that.............so you make a lot of little cuts and it just pops out..........cool! The smacking them into place......that is a low tech but so purrfect way to do it.

That fireplace hardware.........why?? What does it do? The first thing I thought of when I saw is was.......that is a bunch nails

It's what the engineering called for. That detail is pretty typical when dealing with shear walls and they used the entire fireplace for lateral resistance so it's no surprise...

The tile is about half done and here's the combo:
