Ok. My pool builder abandoned me and I'm trying to finish the pool on my own. I got pretty much everything figured out but before I get too crazy I'm trying to figure out how to tighten up the automation on the spillover from the spa. How I currently run it is with suction from the pool and return to the pool so my spa water just sits there. When I want the spillway I manually open up the spa return with the blue ball valve you see to the left. My water is then returning to both the spa and the pool but the spillover is good at the right speeds. If I click SPA on the EasyTouch app the 2 actuator valves flip and I go to spa suction and spa return entirely... which I believe is correct. Obviously. I am trying to make it so when I click Pool I get pool suction/pool return.... when I click SPA I get spa suction/spa return.... and when I click... what waterfall? or whatever setting on the app... I go to pool suction and spa return.

Can I simply add an automated actuator and valve where the blue ball valve is to the left and when activated it simply open up to allow for the spa return and thus my spillway?

I had another builder that wanted to cut off that whole spa return pipe and just use the jet pipes as the returns. I'm not sure how that would affect the blower but I get the idea. With that whole section cut off it would just be valve for the spa/pool return and a valve for the spa/pool suction which I'm sure is super easy for the EasyTouch to accomplish what I want (which I think is pretty standard).

So I guess my question is can I get away with adding a valve actuator and automate the spa return to open within the framework of the EasyTouch system.

Thanks!

Welcome to TFP.

See How to Setup Spillover Mode in EasyTouch in Pentair Automation Systems - Further Reading

Spillover mode will suction from the pool and return to the spa to refresh the spa water.

Then schedule the SPILLWAY circuit to run twice a day morning and afternoon for 15-20 minutes.

No plumbing changes are needed.

oof. I didn't even know I could setup a desktop application to login to this thing. I was just using my phone. Let me mess with it and see if I can figure it out. I don't see an app for Mac though.

Nope.. can't get any download to work on the Mac. I think I need a PC to do all that stuff.. darn.

To be honest, those instructions on the link provided don't seem to answer my question. I understand creating a circuit and setting a schedule for it. What I don't know is how it would work on my current system as a "normal" system I assume would move the return to spa and suction to pool but that doesn't work for my system. My automated return valve can only go from spa return to jets return which are both in the spa. I can't switch my return from pool to spa via automation.

Pentair Screenlogic is Windows only.

You can set it up through the Outdoor Control Panel or app, it is just more complicated.

Maybe @Jimrahbe @mknauss knows.

It may be less expensive for you to get an inexpensive Windows PC to run Screenlogic then to modify your plumbing.

man I'm so close. I just need to get the spa side valve to move when I click spillway on my phone. I went into the outdoor control panel and played with it a lot but. When I click the valve button it cycles between pool and spa but I can't get any action on the spillway. If I could just get the one valve on the spa side return to move I'd be in business. I'll dig through the literature.

23,

I am not sure I fully understand what you are saying..

It appears to me that you have a pretty standard set up for switching between the Pool mode and the Spa mode.

Your Intake valve appears to select either the Spa drain (Spa mode) or you Skimmer/Main Drain, etc (Pool mode)

Your Return valve appears to select either your Spa Jets (Spa mode) or your Pool Returns (Pool mode).

You would just shut off the Blue handle for your spa returns which would no longer be used, if you go with the EasyTouch's Spillway mode.

What am I missing?

Thanks,

Jim R.

In spillway mode only the return valve moves from POOL to SPA. The suction valve should not move and stay on POOL.

In some systems we have seen the suction valve move in SPILLWAY mode instead of the return valve. That indicates the actuators are plugged into the reverse sockets on the board.

So when you turn on your SPILLWAY circuit is either actuator turning?

I set the spillway to Feature 1. I named it spillway. I set the speed on the pump. However, when I click spillway, or feature 1 neither valve moves. They only move from spa to pool. I can't get just 1 to move and I can't get anything to happen when I click Feature 1. Im trying to do it on the outdoor panel as I don't have a PC for the software. I really thought I had it just now but no go.

Man, it worked. I just had to change the actual function. It was set on valve. Whoops. It really is a pain on the outdoor panel but we got it done. Thanks everyone! I'll be back when its time to figure out how to install the Laminars and heater which will be soon.

It does turn on the jets when I switch on the spillway but I think that's better than replumbing. I can always automate all the cleaning schedules and then if I really don't want the jets turn the spillway on manually like I was before.

THANKS AGAIN!

Jon
