Pool Schedule for Pool + Spa Combo

I have a pool + spa ~15000 gallons combo with a variable speed 1HP pump and heater. The pool is able to either circulate pool only, spa only, or spa spillover into pool. Does anyone have any recommendations of a schedule to maximize efficiency of the pump and also the heater so the spa doesn't loose too much heat due to circulation? So far, it seems that I am getting a chlorine loss of about 1-1.5 ppm a day. In addition, does any one have any tips or guides of a good rpm for the pump for the pool and spa mode?

Mike,

Pool with Spas are designed to be in the pool mode (with spillover) most of the time.. They are not designed to keep the spa hot or even warm..

Basically, when you want to use the spa, you turn it on and wait (forever) for the spa to heat up.. You use the spa, and then put the system back into the Pool mode with spillover...

Don't be mad at me, I did not design how it works...

So, basically, you schedule your pool and just manually turn on your spa when you want to use it..

If you know you will be using the spa every night at 8 pm, then you could schedule that..

Thanks,

Jim R.

No problem Jim. Thanks for your response. This actually makes sense as one my questiosn was more so how would someone handle skimming the surface of the spa. Luckily for me, the spa doesn't take forever unless it is super cold out. Regarding the rpm is there some sort of rule of thumb? I know at full speed the pressure is close to 25psi with a clean filter. For pool/spillover mode,I usually try and set to have the lowest rpm to have the pressure around 12psi for a fully clean filter. For spa mode, anything under 20psi that has enough bubbles.

Running my spa spillover for 20 minutes at a good flow pushes most surface debris into the pool. Whatever is left I can skim out with my pool net in a few mionutes.

Every pool is different. Experiment with different RPMs and use the lowest that works well.
