Pool Reno....

Welcome to the new year and work continuing on the project. Luckily we have had very, very little snow in southern Ontario so work can continue on the spa. Busy day of getting the forming done for the concrete pour for the spa coping. Before the pour is done though, a structure will be built over the spa so that they can heat it and continue work. Measurements and final deck design have been completed too so that they will be ready for that pour in April....

Yup - there is a thin layer of ice on the surface of the pool (it was starting to warm up on Thursday so the ice started moving around with the wind).

With the deep freeze and our first significant snowfall coming later this week, the PB has built the structure over the spa so that it can be heated with work continuing over the coming weeks. Never really thought I would see this as part of the project!!

This whole reno has been a lesson is HOW TO DO IT RIGHT! They work so well together and the skill they have shown so far is awesome!

Its going slowly. We have hooked up the electrical to the pool shed and have run a line into the spa hut. Just waiting for them to install the baseboard heaters and continue work. So not a ton has happened over the past few days.

As we look forward to spring, we have signed a contract with a local landscape company to help out with the backyard "softscape" and also the shape of the pool deck. Measurements and elevations for the backyard will be taking place this week and we hope to get plans the following week. It will be spring before we know it!

Well the heater in the “spa shed” has been cranked (I think tulips are going to spring) and the coping is done for the tub. Next week we are off to the tiling!

You got some serious no foolin around guys workin for ya!
Now if you can get them to leave the shed, you’d have one heck of a man cave.

They aren’t messing around! Even though it’s -10 outside, it’s nice and toasty in the spa shed!

Busy couple of days with the spa. The form for the coping has been removed and scratch coats have been applied to the outside and inside of the spa. Not sure if they will tile next, or start polishing the horizontal surfaces. Attached are a couple of pics. The tile in the photo will be in the vertical interior surfaces with the horizontal surfaces being polished concrete.

What color of grout will they use?

Oh a question I thought of a while ago but forgot to ask..............will your spa water be tied in with the pool water?

You know what?? We haven't even discussed grout colour!! (have no idea). Will bring it up with the PB (my wife and I are pretty laid back and these guys seem to know what they are doing - haha).

The spa will be tied in with the pool water, but it will also have its own piping so that we can run it in the winter on its own (will cork the drain into the pool). So in the summer we will have the salt water pool/spa and in the winter we will use a different sanitizer for the spa.

What color of grout will they use?

The pool builder heard you Kim!! We got asked today what colour grout we wanted. I think we are going to go with a charcoal colour. We shall see.

They got most of the tile installed today (and the spa hut is HOT as the heater is cranked while things set. Can’t wait for the electrical bill!!!).

They should have grout sticks for you to play with and see which one you like the best. I bet that color would look good though!!
