I have a plaster pool - is it safe to brush with a wire brush on a regular basis or should I get one with a mix of nylon and wire?

Use a nylon brush for routine plaster brushing. There is no reason to be rougher on your plaster.
Is it safe to use a metal bristle brush? Probably, but no reason for it.
I use a metal bristle brush around the pool for other things like getting leaves off the pool cover.

FWIW, ^^^This brush is very stiff. I don't like it on my vinyl, but I think it would be perfect for plaster.
