Pentair pool pump problems

The pump will not prime with the cover lid off. It can't create suction.

Check the pump lid O ring and lube the O ring with pool lube.

Check the skimmer weir doors that they are not stuck up.

It's not even trying to prime. It's not sucking at all. If you put a hose in the skimmer when it is running full speed, the skimmer fills up and over flows over to top. Wouldn't it suck the water out of the skimmer while it is trying to prime.

If it does not prime you probably have a suction side air leak.

First thing to check is the pump cover O ring,

Post pics of your equipment pad.

You have any valves on the suction line to the pump?

B,

If you fill the pump basket with a hose it should suck the water right out even with the lid off..

If the impeller is working, and if the water has some place to go.

Show us some pics of the plumbing.

With the power off, you should be able to use a finger and feel if you can turn the impeller by hand.

Assuming you don't have some valve shut off, or your filter is completely clogged, then you next option if to remove the motor from the pump body and check the impeller.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I figured it out. I have two valves on the solar to completely isolate the panels during the winter. Both of those valves are closed right now. The actuator that controls the solar malfunctioned and turn on diverting the water to the solar where it ran into the closed valves. With nowhere for the water to go it pressurized the plumbing.
