It’s dig day! The pool DEFINITELY looks bigger now. I’ll post more pics when they are finished. The kids are running from the back to the front of the house watching them dig and then dump the dirt 😂 And my youngest just asked if she can put her swimsuit on 🤦‍♀️ It’s going to be a long couple of weeks!

Dig Day 2 and they are done. I am second guessing my decision to start at 3.5’ instead of 4’ (I’m 5’4”, husband is 5’11 and kiddos are 4’3” and 5’) so the PB is going to come by and see what she thinks. She said to allow 6” for gunite and 5” to waterline from coping when measuring. I’m probably just overthinking it. Rebar and plumbing tomorrow.

See those cutouts at the top of the dig? I bet those are the area for the skimmer. Measure from the floor to the middle of the cut out. Now -6" to see how deep the water might be. Now measure you from the top of your shoulders to your feet. You would not want the water to be any deeper than that in the shallow end.

I would also measure everything-side, length, etc. I always say add 8" for the STEEL, shell, and plaster. Interesting your PB says to add 6" That is what I say to add if there is steel already down. NOW is the time to tweak or fix as wanted or needed.

Steel and plumbing went in today, inspection scheduled for tomorrow 🤞 Measurements match up with the plans according to my tape measure 🙃 Pictures are of the spa, tanning ledge (which is really just a giant step) and then main pool area which should be 17.5 x 36 / 3.5’-6’ deep.

Weather report says thunderstorms through the weekend and all next week for us so I decided to walk out back and make sure there wasn’t anything in the grass that could be ruined and saw that a chunk of dirt came off behind the steel... how big of a deal is this? Especially with rain predicted... Should I email pics to the PB?

Please send some of that over here in S.A. Yikes, it's hot and dry.
You can have it!! We were just teasing that it’s probably the only time we have ever been thankful for hot and dry weather in the summer! I must have jinxed it. The gunite crews are already backed up from Covid and this rain is just going to push us further back on the schedule... but we have been patient for 7 years for this pool, what’s a couple more weeks right? 🤷‍♀️😂

We sent the pics I posted above to our builder and she said they would address it at gunite. But since then we have had off and on rain that saturated the ground and last night we had a full on storm that has continued on to this morning. Woke up to what is pictured below and the mudslide is continuing in small pieces lol. I’ve emailed new pics to the PB so we’ll see what they say. Should we request another inspection after the steel is repaired?

That is too bad, but at least they weren't halfway into the gunite when the bad weather got here. Who is building your pool? We are starting on a new build up in Summerwood as soon as we can get them started.

Wow that was some heavy dirt to push all that steel in like that! Should be fixable though.
Yes! The other areas that have come loose didn’t budge the steel but I think because the drainage of that area is messed up with the dig it’s just softer than usual and more dirt moved. Our deck drainage will be installed all along that area so shouldn’t be an issue in the future. The pool builder is coming by today with the dig crew to assess and fix as much as they can. PB said we are scheduled for gunite this weekend but will likely be pushed to early next week due to backup in the schedule from the rain. 🤞

Bella Oasis Pools is building ours and we have been REALLY happy with them. She is very responsive, answered a TON of questions and even showed us material catalogs and websites so we could see what was included before we signed a contract so we could make sure we would be happy with what was included and wouldn’t be surprised with “upgrade” costs along the way. Highly recommend them so far. Who is building your pool?

That's great! We have a local builder up here that has been in the area since the 80s and he has been really good so far. He did the same with us, but we still wanted to go to the tile place and see them in person and look up all the specifics on all of our materials. Now if we could just get a dig date ! But they were he the other day and flagged all the utilities, so we must be getting close. I am trying to contain myself and not bother them every day, but we are ready to swim

I feel your pain! Lol we built our house 7yrs ago and intended to put a pool in right away and got sticker shock at $45k, got quotes again 3yrs ago for $55k and finally decided to just do it when the quotes were close to $70k! Thank goodness our PB was nice enough to come as close to her original quote 3yrs ago as she could and we are at $63k (after adding $2500 to our original quote by raising the spa and adding 2ft to the length)
We are more than ready to swim!! 😆

We started out at $40K for the pool and spa and have added several thousand dollars onto that for extras. We actually signed the original contract at $43K, but are still adding onto it. I am hoping we can stay around $50K total.

So we are back in business, water was pumped out and about 70% of the steel was removed on Thursday. Dig team started early Friday and removed all of the loose dirt, steel team came back in and replaced all the steel they had removed the day before and then the gunite crew came in the afternoon and “flashed” the walls and spa to prevent additional caving. Not going to lie, I was hoping and praying they would just decide to shoot the pool right then 🤣 (wishful thinking) but we are scheduled for full gunite Monday / Tuesday next week so hopefully that sticks. We’ve had off and on rain since then but they left the pump and it’s holding up ok so far.
