New Pool Build Fort Worth TX

The lighting will be awesome Kimber1. I put lighting in my steps leading to the pool and everyone loves it. As for water testing I'm new at this and not sure if I'm authorized to be showing folks stuff but I'm happy to help if no one jumps on it. I will check back tomorrow and see...dont be overwhelmed it gets really easy after a few spins around the block.

Have you decided to use pool math at the top of the page? Will you be downloading the phone app for pool math? Whats your plan? I use my iPhone as well as pool math on the laptop and pool logger...all have slightly different features and the phone app cost just a little. Let me know...

Seeing the lighting on your steps is what made me start thinking about our steps :D. The PB advised against adding them in the steps themselves and instead adding them under the coping. Once we got quoted on the pricefor those lights, and the light that Kimkats recommended for the equipment pad, it was about the same price as the UV and Ozone system we were giving up. It ended up breaking even with what we had already budgeted. Win!!

I will be using pool math and downloading the app. My husband calls me the geekiest geek he's every known (and we are both in I.T., lol). So I'm all about apps! Math is my nemesis though. Give me writing any day of the week, but math puts me into a blind panic. So when I saw pool math the first time I was like, nuh-uh... no way, but when I looked at it and saw it does all of the calculations for you I was much happier. :)

Testing teacher here!!!!!

I am going to start with some videos:

https://www.youtube.com/user/tf100testkit?feature=results_main

Don't bother doing the CYA test as it has to be added.

Some hints:

PH-I like to hold something white behind the tube and pull it back and forth to help me "match" the color. A white paper or plastic plate would work.

-TA-it will "flash" color as you add the drops. Keep going until the color change holds.

FC-the water will turn back to pick if you let it sit for a bit. Don't worry about it. It does not mean anything. Once it goes clear you are done. Oh and it does not really go "clear". You are looking for no more pink. Know you house water may not have any FC in it. So don't worry too much if yours do not.

I hope this helps. I will check on you to see how it is going.

What line did you fill the water too for the FC test?

That is VERY normal results. I am guessing you have city water instead of well water. Quite a few times the city uses something (I forget what) to sanitize the water that causes the higher cc.

I am going to have you read this again if you have already:

Pool School - ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry

PH and TA go hand in hand for skin and eye comfort.

FC protects your pool from yuckies

CH protects your plaster.

CYA is "sunscreen" for your FC

I can see your eyes right now  "what in the world is she talking about??????" Take your time. Be glad you are learning all of this now. You have plenty of time to really get to know it.

 I got ya!

With a CC of 2 your water utility must be using some kind of non-chlorine oxidizer. They have to report what they use - you can look on their website.

Otherwise - your water would stink like 'chlorine' I would think.

Thanks to KimKats patiently walking me through the tests I now have my starting numbers for my tap water.

pH is high 8.2 and Alkalinity is 150 so I know I will need muriatic acid (which my husband informed me I was saying wrong <<eye roll>>). Calcium hardness was 150. Chlorine was 2ppm.

On a sad note, they were supposed to install coping and stone wall today but no one showed up, and we have rain in the forecast for the next 10 days. So our build will be on hold for a bit unless the weather changes for the better.

Once again Kimkats to the rescue on water testing...

Kimber1 please don't be offended but I was soooo LMAO reading about your water testing...not at you but just knowing it was only a few short weeks ago I was at that stage...thanks for the memory :bounce:

Lol!! I’m such a geek within I.T., yet completely choked when it came to how to test water chemistry!! Lol. Kim is SUCH a sweetheart! She held my hand on the phone and made everything make more sense [emoji5]
