Of course today and through Wednesday we are getting 2-4" of rain with more locally, tornado watches, severe wind gusts, etc. We have been in a drought since basically Hurricane Matthew last year, which made digging the pool even better. So I doubt we will get much done with the tile and stone given the weather reports. But at least the ball is starting to creep forward again after 6 weeks.

Def not going to get any work done today. We are under tornado watches and warnings, potential hail, severe lighting, high winds gusting up to 60-70 mph with heavy rain. We are totally flooded already. I got the horses inside the barn and me and the cats and dogs are hunkered down in the living room. Unfortunately all that activity has my lower right socket throbbing but hopefully it will calm down. At this point, I am not sure how they are going to get the travertine on our property bc its so wet they will tear up the ground and get stuck.

Radar an hour ago.. We are the blue dot

The pool trash pile and where all the water is is where they park and also were stacking the pallets of material

Part of my pasture for the horses that's about 50-60 feet beyond the pool and house. If you look closely to the far left, that pile of dirt is from the dig and the actual pool and all is on the other side

And it will keep on coming. It is hitting us in waves. At one point we were on the ready to do a tornado "drill" but it never came all the way down! NOT FUN! I just kept the kids busy with the blinds closed.........lots of movement and markers and they were happy!

Well we survived all the storms. We got over 5" of rain and have quite a bit of standing water but that is all.

Travertine arrived today! Poor driver didn't speak a lick of English but I was able to communicate to him how to approach our drive so that he could make the turn into our property. I then tried to get him to park a little more towards the house so his fork lift wouldn't get stuck when he drove to the passenger side to unload but that didn't get translated too well so yes, he got stuck and tore up the grass. Hubby had to help get him out. He finally moved the truck over to avoid that area again. Ugh.

It was a little tense watching him unload the crates. The fork lift must have been from the 1940's as it was a clunker and nothing about it ran smooth. But eventually, he was able to get all 10 crates safely off the truck. I then had to guide him out of the driveway and around the culvert until he was free to head back south.

No obvious broken pieces that we could see from the crates. TM claims only 4% breakage and will cover any beyond that so we shall see.

We also met the new construction manager for the pool company. He had a list and was making sure he knew exactly what needed to be done and who to schedule and said the ball was about to get rolling. Tomorrow they are grading the dirt inside the enclosure area, this weekend the stone and tile will be finished, Tues the plumbers will be out to finish, Wed is the electrician, and somewhere in there they are going to bust out the concrete patio and run the chases for the gas lines and build our columns around the wall. Things are def about to start up here again. This new guy worked for 15 years at another big pool company here and he def comes off knowing what he is doing.

Pics! We didnt unpack any of the travertine but it looks amazing!

No grading done today. I think it was bc we were concerned about the machinery tearing up the yard and making it a muddy mess bc we got so much rain the last few days. Tomorrow we should have our Brazillians back to finish the stone and tile work!

Today 2 guys did show up and removed the trash pile! We are pretty laid back and easy going but hubby was getting tired of having to chase the trash around the property whenever the wind blew.

Rex said there was just too much excitement today so he is going to take a nap

The main dig guy's wife came over one day for lunch with them and asked if she could go pet them as she used to ride when she was younger. They comment on how pretty they are and such but pretty much leave them alone. Of course there havent been a lot of people here in a while lol though that will be changing next week.

Here are some more pics of the travertine. I can only get to some of the 8x8 squares and the 6x12 bull nose pieces right now but it is some pretty looking stuff! Can't wait to see all the pieces laid out.

So today some guys showed up and built the columns on either side of our raised beam wall. Well, it has been stressed that the columns were to be built flush with the wall so that when the stone is applied, it sticks out beyond the tile, so the tile looks inset in the stone.

Well I am having pain from my wisdom tooth extraction so was trying to rest in bed this morning and hubby went out to tell the guys about the column but they were arguing with him and again, barely spoke any English. I told him to call the PB. PB is like oh I thought you wanted the stone flush with the tile, not the columns flush... Ugh no. Never discussed this.

So the guys up and leave even though we told them the columns were wrong. PB is saying they can add mortar and float the face of the columns flush with the wall but 1) I was already concerned with how far behind the wall the columns would be and setting them 1.5" further back just adds to it sticking into the walking area and 2) every where there is a joint of material it is a weak point and eventually water could get between the blocks and the mortar causing the stone to get loose. And ultimately, it needs to be done correctly.

So hubby went out and dismantled the columns while the mortar was still wet bc once it set those blocks will be wasted and again, they need to be set correctly. Ugh...

On Thursday when we met the new head of construction guy, we discussed the columns and he said he wanted to be there when they built them to make sure they were done correctly esp bc they needed a footer built to get them the correct height and plane as the wall.

So the little bit of work that was done today was then undone. And apparently the guy arguing with my hubby was the head tile guy. For whatever reason the 2 Brazilians who had been out in the beginning, who also knew about the columns and suggested cutting the corner pieces so they looked clean in the ends, were not out today. Hopefully they come back soon.

Yeah..... Poor hubby. Since I was in bed with this dry socket, the fact I had to get out of bed to deal with the column issue did not make for a happy wife. I was perturbed bc this was something we had discussed many times and add in grumpy with little sleep and a lot of pain, well, I was not pleasant. Poor PB was on the phone with hubby and hubby is asking what to do and I was a little loud esp bc the guys just up and left even after being told it was wrong. So hubby took it down bc I said I would do it if I had to. After he thought it through, he felt like I did. We paid enough money for all of this so it should be done right the first time. So ultimately he was glad he took them down but originally I think he was doing damage control for me... Lol

Hopefully we will wake to a flurry of activity tomorrow.

Haha yup!

So today, the guy came out and graded the dirt and our Brazilians were back to finish the stone. They talked to my hubby about the columns and he remembered my convo with him about the position and showed him how he knew they should be flush. So they finished the spa stone and the back of our raised wall. However, when I went out to check it (laid up in bed still with this dry socket pain.. Awful stuff) I immediately noticed the color differences as there is almost a line separating them. I get that stone has variance but seriously??? I mean it would probably bother me a little less if the panels were mixed together and the different colors spread out over the area instead of grouping them together so it wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb. So sent a text to PB about my frustrations and a pic of it. Not sure what can be done.

Last Monday when the stone arrived I literally had 5 mins before I had to leave for my surgery so I looked at all of the boxes and made sure they said the right color and opened 3 boxes but it was 94 degrees and I was covered in sweat and had to leave. Then once home I have had a hard time as my lower right has a dry socket which is one of the most horrible and unbearable pains EVER. So I don't know what to do... Probably nothing. At least it is behind the wall and not a focal point but still...

Here you can see from the open spot to the right is one color and to the left of the open space is all tan. Ugh and a very distinct line between them

Here you can see right in the center of this side more tan areas but since it is feathered in with the others it isn't as obvious
18814347_10211687124880844_955964821992095118_n.jpg

And one after the rain.. Still obvious differences. I would be happy just mixing the 6 panels on the right throughout the 10 foot wall but I checked and the thin set is already set up.

So tomorrow they are going to try to grout. They couldn't today bc of the afternoon storms as this grout cannot get wet for 4 hours after application. And I think the electrician is coming tomorrow as well.

I consider myself super particular, but I don't see it unless I look really hard. I think you've got to pick your battles and this is one no one else will ever notice, especially given the location. Try to enjoy the rest of your build as much as you can!

Shantellace I think it looks amazing. When we first built our pool the plaster was very mottled and the pb assures that it will all blend in with time. Every pool should have some character. Stay strong you will get over this and look forward to putting all this behind you.

As I have sat here and digested it I have thought the same. I would never ask them to bust it off and fix it but was just sharing my frustrations. Thankfully it is on the back of the wall that only has 5 feet of space behind it and we will have a screen so it isn't a focal point. And I don't blame the PB bc God knows he has been incredible through all of this and we are getting many things at cost or no charge for certain upgrades.

I am going to blame the initial reaction on being in some of the worst pain I have ever dealt with which just makes everything unpleasant (the dry socket). I gotta keep the big picture in mind and like I said to my friend just before signing on here to see grumpie say the same thing - pick the battles. And focus on the positive - I mean, look how great the spa looks? They took so much time and care with cutting and placing the stone around that curve. These guys really do an amazing job. We got their cell phone number bc we are calling them to put stone and tile on our fire pit in the future.

Thanks for the words of wisdom. I knew it but let my emotions get ahead of my brain sometimes.
