My SLAM Journey

Every couple days due to evaporation ... If it's lower than halfway up the skimmer I bring it back up to half way ... Back washing every time my psi is over normal and I've never vacuumed to waste bc they said it makes ur water level go down really fast ...

It's been a few days that we've had a full set if test results. Can you post a set today (minus pH as it will be a false high)?

Also, can you post a close up of your pools plaster surface? Is all of your pools surface plaster, or do you have some that is vynal? Dealing with metals are a bit different between the different surfaces and I'd like to make 100% sure we're in the same boat.

FC: 17
Cc: .5
Ch: 300-425 - not sure if the water should be blue blue or just when the water changes from red to a bluefish tinge
Cya: 20 - lost most of my cya
Ta: 380

Okay results from the pool store on my water from the hose is pH levels are really good except I have really high iron content so she had me buy some spray in metal something or other to put in it but I'm going to leave it up to the forum as to whether or not I should use it

I'm no expert, but I would wait until after slam is over to add anything extra. The metal stuff is most likely a sequestering agent that binds to the metal to keep them dissolved in the water to prevent stains. It looks like an ascorbic treatment would be next on the list after the slam to remove the iron stains, then you would add the metal stuff to keep them dissolved.

They tested both tap and pool ... Said cya was really low, chlorine was good, tap was 7.2 ph and high rink content ... When u put the two bottles of water next to each other you can see the iron in the water ... I do believe this may be what is changing my water color but I'm def no expert ... Here's a pic of the stuff she had me get to deal with the metal (which I did not put in, just have it readily available now)

I've got a bit of good news.........and some bad news. :(

The good news is that it looks like you're getting the idea (stay away from Pool Stores) of the TFPC and starting to feel more confident with your decisions. Trust in what you've learned so far and you'll maintain a clear pool. From your test results, and water color, it looks like you're ready for the last test......the OCLT. This test will show you anything that is consuming the chlorine in the water. You should not worry about ANYTHING else until you pass this step. The SLAM is not over until this is passed. You've got the majority of the gunk killed off in the pool.........don't stop now!

Now for the bad news. :(
Judging from the photo's it looks like you've got the beginning of some plaster damage. At this point, I wouldn't worry much about this issue, however in the future it looks like some professional work will be needed to fix the pool. Maintaining your levels will help slow the plaster damage down, however for the most part the damage is already done. I've got ZERO experience in dealing with plaster, however once the SLAM is finished I'll find another member to help you deal with that step next.

For now however..........Finish the SLAM and rock the heck out of the water! You've busted your rear to clean this up for the kids........now enjoy it after the SLAM!

Power Quest MSDS

1) (1-Hydroxyethylidene) diphosphonic acid 2809-21-4 60% aka Etidronic acid

From wiki:
Etidronic acid is a chelating agent and may be added to bind or, to some extent, counter the effects of substances, such as calcium, iron or other metal ions, which may be discharged as a component of grey wastewater and could conceivably contaminate groundwater supplies.

Etidronic acid is also included among swimming pool chemicals. It is used as a stain inhibitor to prevent metal ions coming out of solution and staining the sides of swimming pools.

Today's Test Results after a full pool of swimming kids all day:

FC: 11
CC: .5
CYA: 50
PH 7.5

Last night or really early this morning however you look at it, the pool was crystal clear. Woke up at 10:00 still crystal clear with a little bit of sediment on the bottom. Added 1 gal 10% at 5:00pm to kill any germies that may have entered the pool while all the kids were in it (ahem!!!! pee, only my children got out. Might have to initiate adult swim). OCLT taking place tonight.

You have made some great progress! I hope it gets easier for you from now on!

That is great the kids had fun! We have an enforced rule. ALL kids go potty BEFORE they get in the pool. If they are still in it an hour later they get out one at a time and go potty. In my head this keeps them from peeing in the pool. I am not sure it does but...........it makes me feel better LOL
