Large rip in new liner

We installed a new liner last fall and closed the pool. When opening this week we discovered a large rip in the shallow end just below the return. Can this be patched? How would you go about patching? It is still holding water but leaking slowly. It was almost full when we removed the cover I guess from rain. We have added water but should I drain to below the tear? The liner company is sending us a piece of liner to match but no telling how long before it gets here.

It can be patched! I get the patch kit from Home Depot. Lowes might have it as well. Two patches. First one just over the side of the rip. the second one a bit bigger than then first one.

Do you have any idea how it happened? It it form ice over the winter?
