IntelliCenter and MasterTemp 400 Communication

Is the fireman’s switch jumper just a straight connection between the two poles? I suspect the installers didn't keep the jumper. Can I just make my own with a wire?
Most likely they cut the jumper in half and connected the wires there, with wire nuts. So you can just wire nut the two halves back together.

How do I tell what version the MasterTemp PCB has?
Here are the steps to the Version for a MasterTemp that is connected to the IntelliCenter is the RS485 connection:
- Power off IntelliCenter and Heater
- Power on Heater only
- Press Pool/Spa on keypad
- Press Menu/Back on keypad
- Arrow down to Version (about 12 clicks) and press Select on keypad. It is not easy to see (for some of us), but there is a small cursor under the first letter of the menu item as it scrolls down.

The version is now displayed

I have read that there is a version 1.1 of the MasterTemp PCB where this is supposed to be fixed.
Pentair advised me that there is a version 1.1 out for the MasterTemp (I have version 1.0). They have also stated that a fix to the IntelliCenter is coming for this. That guidance was given at 9 months prior to 2.006. To me they did not state that 1.1 is needed for this issue to be fixed. When I tested this issue with combination of 2.006 and 1.0, the issue was not resolved. I reached out to Pentair and they said that 2.006 is a bad release and I should go back to 1.064. No interest at that time to look at the specific issue. For me the next steps are to install the next published release for IntelliCenter and test again. @ajw22 did you hear about 1.1 fixing the issue specifically?

I read it here. I have no direct Pentair knowledge about the issue.

So far no one has reported they have a heater where the IntelliValve cooldown works properly. That is what I am looking for.

My first test of connecting my Mastertemp heater with automated bypass valve to my Intellicenter worked for running the heater but failed after I turned it off. The heater showed RS485 Control on the display. The bypass valve closed when the system started. When I called for heat, the bypass valve fully opened and the heater fired up. When I set the heat source to None. The heater shut off and went into cool-down mode. This is where it stopped working well. The heater stayed stuck in cool-down mode even though the Intellicenter had a 5 minute setting. The automated bypass valve remained open. I had to kill the power to all of the equipment to return it to the bypass mode.

I will continue to test and report if I experience anything different.

@KevMo , Thanks for testing. This is the same/reported error we have been experiencing. Question: what firmware are you using on the IntelliCenter and on the MasterTemp?

Intellicenter version 1.064 & Mastertemp 400 version 2.00.
Thanks for sharing. Could you try it with IntelliCenter firmware version 2.006 (if you have it)? Then you’re testing with all the latest firmware versions for both IntelliCenter and MasterTemp. I see 2.006 is no longer available from Pentair. If you can’t test with 2.006, then we must wait for the next IntelliCenter version to be released.

I would not suggest anyone touch 2.006. If your IC is running fine then leave well enough alone.

Agree. I installed 2.006 to check on enhancements and then returned to 1.064 as it is easy to switch between firmware versions.
For some 2.006 messed up settings that needed to be fixed when they reverted. Stay away.

For now I have worked around the problem by putting my Mastertemp heater on the load aide of the main pump relay and turning off the main pump after a 5-10 minute cool-down period. Power cycling the heater resets the software cool-down lock. It is a manual step, albeit remotely, but having thr bypass engaged is worth it to me. Without the heater bypassed I get an estimated 9-10 gpm at 1,500 RPMs on my Intelliflow3 pump. With the bypass Intellivalve closed down to one click open to let a little water trickle through the heater I get 37+ gpm, which is more than enough to skim.

I’ve upgraded IntelliCenter to FW version 2.017 and still have MasterTemp FW version 1.0. I tested the auto bypass and MasterTemp heater remains stuck in cooldown and does not reengage the bypass automatically🙁. I will follow up with Pentair tomorrow, but it would be good to hear from anyone with a connected MasterTemp FW version 2.0 and have upgraded to IntelliCenter 2.017 (@KevMo ? Others?)

I did not realize they had released an updated firmware. I will load the new firmware tomorrow and check it out. Will advise.

Loaded the new firmware and moved the valve actuator back to the mastertemp board. Same issue :(
One interesting thing is that a warning popped up stating my pump firmware is out of date.

I just updated mine... Same result. No change to the on board heater bypass function.

So far I do not seem to have a pump firmware alert either.

I called Pentair. they advised that the issue was resolved with IC update 2.017. They will have a specialist call me to assess further. MasterTemp firmware version 1.0 might be the issue, but they needed more details. I will advise once I get more guidance.
@Turbo1Ton what version is your MasterTemp firmware?
I also did not get the pump firmware alert.

There is a rumor around that the latest MasterTemps have V1.1 firmware on their boards. So Pentair is making updates and fixing stuff. It all has not come together yet.
