IG Vinyl Build: It's Happening!

Any reason why I can't add chlorine as long as I mix it?
Nope. Hand brushing works fine. (y)

You said you'd added nothing but water so far. It appeared bleach wasn't happening until the pump was running next week, hence the need for phosfree.

Nice. I'm about to sign a contract for an L pool with similar dimensions but 6 foot deep end . How many skimmers and returns are you doing? Also will have 16' liner stairs. Are you putting any step jets on yours?
Awesome, so excited for you! Based on my experience during the last several years, be very cautious about who you sign a contract with. If you have any hesitation whatsoever I would re-evaluate. My decision between two builders cost me 2 summers worth of swimming plus a swimming pool full of cash extra due to inflation. I'm no expert but feel free to PM me anything you need or have questions on.

As for skimmers I have 2 placed strategically for prevailing winds. I have 3 returns plus a Typhoon slide, so maybe you could say 3 1/2 because the slide won't be on all the time. No step jets. One of the returns is right next to the steps so I will play around with the direction of that one to see if I can use it to help keep the steps a little cleaner. Not too concerned though.

Can't wait for this rain/snow to stop and for it to warm up bit. Soon as it dries out we'll get this pool done, hoping they'll be able to get stone in here Friday (or Saturday if they'll do delivery then) so we can backfill. I know pics help, but nothing looks different, just wetter!

Hope there aren't any Yankee fans out there enjoying the Guardians downfall, but if so, good luck in the ALCS! Rather it be the Yankees than the Astros in the WS.

I am only enjoying the baby carrying guy going home. His showboating came while they were losing, making him twice the idiot. :ROFLMAO:

Finally, the rain has stopped! There was soooo much water, an of course something jammed the censor on the sump in the overdig trench so it filled way up until I got home to adjust it. Draining nicely, now time for some sun to dry it out and get this baby (I know, didn’t want to change after I typed, bad choice of words after ALDS) finished!

Just spent 2.5 hours moving/adjusting the sump to get as much water out of the overdig as possible. So much water! I even sucked up some of the standing water in the bobcat tracks. Gotta get this thing dried out to move the bobcat around, bring in stone and backfill this. Luckily the forecast looks very nice for the next week.

Got some chlorine made in September if I’m reading right. Also got some liquid CYA since my water is at zero, enough to bring it up to 20 or so. I won’t have pump running until next week sometime. Is it OK to brush in both the chlorine and CYA? Or can only the chlorine be brushed in? By brush I mean pool boying it and brushing the walls to mix up the water. Also, any insight on what “Smartzyme” is for the CYA? Don’t want to put it in if I shouldn’t 3B07CA76-C2F1-4F09-9E27-D950A0A51293.jpeg8C317454-755D-4831-B4F9-7766A030A50C.jpeg

You are, and It's fresh. (y)

Yup. Both will puddle on the floor being heavier than water. Be mindful of where you are pushing the puddle to as you brush. It's easy to accidentally make a half puddle over there somewhere. A couple passes with the brush should be plenty and only take a few minutes.

You'll probably find the CYA to be clumpy on the bottom of the jug. Keep filling it and swishing and pour out the watery mix while trying not to dump sludge. Then brush the floor good a couple of times. Get the walls once after for good measure.

Sounds like they're trying to justify the extra cost of the liquid sitting on the same shelf as the granuals IMO. The 65% part looks like a really fancy way to say 'water' :ROFLMAO:

Thanks for all these tips! I probably overdid it on the brushing, spent well over an hour brushing. Put in 1 gallon chlorine and 2 gallons CYA, brushed, and got these results:

FC: 1.5
CC: 0.5
TC: 2
CH: 300
TA: 90
CYA: 20
pH: 7.5

I added 2 more gallons of chlorine after testing, brushed thoroughly, but didn't test again. I'll test again tomorrow. I'm thinking 2 more gallons of CYA should be good. @kimkats you mentioned watching my TA a few posts ago, should I do something to lower it? I'm trying to add as few things to the pool as possible. Want to be a good little TFP'er!

For right now lets let your TA ride as it could be just right for your pool. What I do want you to do is watch the pH. If it jumps up hard and fast THEN we will lower the TA. I do NOT want to work with muriatic acid without your pump running. The other stuff you can brush in just fine. Don't want to take the chance on the acid.

You are being a GREAT TFPer!!

How sure are you on the gallons ? Mine without the L and only 7.5 water depth clocks in the low 30k's. At 33k gallons, each gallon of (fresh) 10% is about 3ppm.

Don't overdo the FC with a CYA of 20. SLAM (40%) is 8 FC.

And if 2 CYA jugs gave you 20 as expected, add 1 more to be a 30. There is no need to have a 40 this time of year in OH.
Margaret at Marina Pool & Spa hooked me up with an A20. Should have in a few days. She's so helpful and efficient! Plus their prices are solid!
I finally got to email them myself. I decided to hold off, but she was great as the prophecies foretold. She even talked me out of the expensive robot. Err. The expensive-er robot ?
Want to be a good little TFP'er!
You're doing GREAT !!!! Ask first with anything you don't fully understand. We'd SO much rather have a laugh with a silly question. (Laughing *with* you BTW, not at). If you foul something up, we'll happily help you fix it, but it's better for all involved to not have to. (y)

I tested before I added, was at 0 FC (maybe 0.5, still working on my testing skills). After I added was 1.5. 2 more gallons will put me between 3.5 and 4.5. Plus, I figured after this weeks snow, summer is coming back! 75 and sunny for the next week here!

Will do, thanks!

So true. Had similar conversation with her, started at A20, asked questions to see if I should go up and she kept me away from the Trucoat upgrade!

Got in the pool today to try to clean up some of the rocks from the backfill…it was 52…COLD! Feet were burning and couldn’t feel my legs when I got out!

Will the A20 work in such cold water?
