We have a Hayward heat pump/chiller model HP31005T. Is there a way to connect it to our Pentair intellicenter. The Hayward gas heater is hooked and working fine but having issues making the electric heat pump work. Any insight would be greatly appreciated

You have to put the heater into BO mode for it to get a call for heat from the automation. Is it the round heat cool model? If so there might be an RS-485 com connection you can use. Newer models came out with that after people complained about not having full functionality of the heat/cool with only 1 remote connection. I found that out the hard way.

You can also use the Solar valve output by connecting a 24 VAC Relay to the Solar Valve socket and that will activate the remote function.

Two of the standard valve outputs are dedicated to the pool/spa INTAKE and RETURN valves.

Valve A or Valve B actuators are for general purpose use (solar, water-feature, in-floor cleaner, etc.).

Use Valve A for Solar/Heat Pump.

You have to figure out the correct wires to use.

You need to configure the Heater in the Settings.

The valve actuator sends 24 VAC to Black and Red or Black and White depending on the actuator position.

The relay coil will be powered when the actuator is moving the Solar valve to Solar Position.

Just measure if the voltage is Black and Red or Black and White when the Solar Valve is actuated.

Valve A or Valve B actuators are for general purpose use (solar, water-feature, in-floor cleaner, etc.).

Use Valve A for Solar/Heat Pump.

Bypass Operation.

The heat pump may be controlled by a remote thermostat.

Disconnect power to the heat pump before removing any panels.

Use a proper outdoor rated 22 AWG cable (20 AWG for runs over 30 ft) for the connection from the thermostat to the heat pump.

Route the cable through appropriate knockouts making sure they are not shared with high voltage wiring.

Connect the thermostat cable to the “Remote On/Off” terminal.

After the thermostat cable is fastened and secure, refasten the panels.

Follow the steps on the next page to enable bypass operation.

Use the UP and DOWN keys to select bypass operation mode “0” (bypass operation disabled) or “1” (bypass operation enabled).

Once the desired modeis selected, wait 2 seconds for the selection to be saved.

NOTE: when bypass operation is enabled, the main interface will display “bo” and no heater operation will occur until bypass operation is disabled.

Parameter settings can still be changed.

Are the heaters in series or in parallel?

Do you want the heat and cool functions?

Do you need to control it from the Intellicenter?

Can you control it from the heater control panel?

Why are you mixing brands?

It is usually better to keep all equipment in the same brand if possible especially for automation.

Hayward is not very good at updating their manuals. That wiring diagram might not be updated. If they have the newer model they can have full functionality of heat and chill through rs485. Although I’m not sure if it could work with pentair because Hayward uses their HUA “Hayward unique address “ as a smart heater to control both heat and cool without having to go to the heater and change it.
