First Ever Pool - Above ground bestway 4.2m slice of heaven

See? Absolutely no room for turf.... :) So much easier and much cheaper... :) And I think these sleepers will support the pool nicely.... Next week its time for some new tools, a set square, a spirit level and sleeper joining hardware.... :) Lots of levelling in my future... :-( SUX.......

Photos are on the page before.....

I've woke up this morning to dismal weather... Its been raining on and off here all night, so there's no way I can go outside and work in the clay..... Its a real bummer as I'm super psyched to get stuff done today..... Oh well it means I can go shopping at Bunnings (your equivalent to Lowes) if I decide to head out in this weather...

On the plus side, if I decide not to go anywhere, I can sit at home in front of the computer and watch some amazing presentations from the World Science Festival :)

And its the first of June, therefore the first official day of winter... :-( Here comes the really cold weather....

Another bargain.... :) I LOVE ONLINE SHOPPING.... Just surfing around Amazon and I managed to find 2" ball valves for just under $6 each.... :)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009D7UQXC/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm pretty sure these will be perfect... I'm using 2" pvc flexi hoses and connections and fittings, and the best part, they sell for around $20-30 each here in Australia so I bought 5 of them... :)

Girl! I am going to get you to do any shopping I need done! You seem to find the best deals!

Thanks Kimkats, :) Being a stay at home mum, and having the house to myself for nearly 7 hours a day, gives me some time to browse.... :) Australia is the most expensive country when it comes to buying imported goods, and New Zealand is worse....... Apple products here in Oz, cost nearly $200-300 more here for the exact same thing, and iTunes Store content is double the price :grrrr:..... And our Government wonders why so many Australians shop overseas???? And they wonder why Australia downloads more content illegally than most countries... Why? Because its a bald-faced rip off.....

Had a visit from Ryan the electrician today :).... He's going to install two double outdoor powerpoints (that's what they're called here), and put a new circuit into my fuse box as my 3 different pumps will use a bit of electricity... He's charging me $325 for the install, all equipment required including drilling into my brick, installing wiring and connecting to fuse box, so its not too bad.... :)

Wow someone is installing a fibreglass pool just a few houses down from me :)

Well Ryan the electrician is booked for this coming Wednesday.... :) Very excited about having the electrical work done... I will be sure to take pictures and post them next week.... Not doing anything else to the yard this week, I've blown my weeks pool budget by getting the sparky to come... :)

Heading out into the yard this morning to place the sleepers properly and get them level... :) This shouldn't be too difficult as I have a spirit level and I don't have to remove anymore dirt... Will post pics later this afternoon....

Its freezing cold here, but the skies are really clear... Its only 41 degrees f here at the moment or 5 degrees for me... :-( Going to get rugged up and git 'er done...

Oh and that fibreglass pool I posted a pic of earlier in the week? Yeah well remind me never to use the company they are using.... They couldn't get the pool in I think, as its still sitting outside the guys back fence... its been there for two days.... If I had a flat bed truck, I'd be hauling it away....lol..... Its a fibreglass install, the easiest pool to install.... And they've been doing prep work for weeks, I didn't know what the trucks were doing there till they brought the pool the other morning, so they've had plenty of time.....

Time to go get caked in muddy clay.....:)

Righto, put in a half arsed effort today......I could have done more, but it was so cold.... I had to remove yet another row of pavers close to the house and the hubby and his mate had to remove a huge piece of concrete buried underneath the front boundary fence that was a remnant of the old fence.... For some stupid reason it had a piece of 4 x 2 steel about 2 foot long, attached to the bottom of the concrete.... Why I have no idea... The fence was really well anchored...

I've strung some level lines for the sleepers, and we've got 6 metres of sleepers down one side totally level..... I went to Bunnings and grabbed some steel pegs to hold the sleepers in place....

I hate levelling... But once I get the frame level, I can order my blue metal dust and plate compactor and lay a 50mm layer inside the frame.... On top of that, I will lay and tape the foam insulation board....

The sleepers are 75mm thick the blue dust is 50mm and my foam is 30mm thick, so 5mm will be above the sleepers UNTIL I fill it with water.... It will probably crush the insulation more than that, but that's cool...

I will post pics as soon as Hubby gets home... He had to take my phone shopping as the kids had completely flattened the battery on his, and that's where the pics are... So tired... More to do tomorrow.... Pics soon....

Thank you Dave and Kimkats.... :) Glad to see you're still tuning in... :)

I'm about to head back outside, but I've got some more pics first.....

We are getting really close to the house.... :-( I'm not happy about it but the footprint on this pool is leaving me no option....

And a side on view of the fence anchor..... Good grief....

And the stringline showing me, how NOT SQUARE my front yard is.....

I don't think I can do much more now till I order the blue metal dust... I've ran out of dirt to use as support underneath the sleepers....

We did have to go slightly underneath the diagonal fence.....

Got the sleeper closest to the house, in and level today...

This is a slow heavy job, lifting sleepers in and out to get them level.... I'm glad we only have to do this once.....

More after I get the blue metal dust....

Now bearing in mind, the sleepers will not join up and make a frame per say..... The footprint needed a distance between the longest sides to be 330cm.... The sleepers are 20 cm wide, I want the legs to sit dead centre of the sleepers so I made the distance 350cm.... The length required a footprint of 605cm, so I made the distance from far edge of sleeper to far edge of sleeper as 625cm.....

Now because the sleepers are only 300cm long, I am out by about 25 cm lengthwise and 30 cm widthwise, but it really doesn't make a difference as the sleepers only need to go underneath the legs, not the entire length and breadth of the pool.... :) And they don't make sleepers longer than 300cm.....

I've also been thinking of ways I can disguise the huge beige fence behind the pool... Its such a horrible colour... My favourite colour in the world is White.... Its just so crisp and clean looking so I've decided to buy some white shade cloth and some cheap lattice, which I will spray paint white and see what I can come up with... I figure some easily made frames with hooks I can hang over the fence would be perfect... :)
