You won't get much targeted help if no one knows what type of equipment you're using. Please create your signature so we can help:

Examine your filter grids for tears/holes/damage. Inspect the manifolds closely for cracks. Make sure any o-rings are in good condition and seated. Check the air relief valve strainer/screen for damage and make sure it's seated.

The bottom of the grids were likely submerged in water during the disassembly process which may explain why there is no DE there.

How are you testing your water?

Can you post a full set of test results?

An Overnight Chlorine Loss Test will rule out algae.

Vern,

When you let the water out of your filter, the DE at the bottom will fall off in most cases...

Your problem sounds more like one or more of your grids has a hole in it.

If you have algae in your filter, it is too late, you have already lost the algae war..

Algae is a chemical issue and not a filter issue. Your filter is not there to capture algae..

Thanks,

Jim R.

I will check the grids and manifold closely agian as well as the grids .. I am testing my water using the Clorox test strips with the photo analyzer it varies wildly from minute to minute… I can check one area with different test strips and get very different results

Thanks I will disassemble and chec more closely for tears/ holes as well as cracks in the manifold

I Disassemble the filter grids and they are good… they are just 4 months old…also I noticed low water pressure so I ordered a new presser relieve valve assembly… it should be here today….I also check the pump motor assembly and the turbine is clean … perhaps there is a leak or clog some were…I also just installed a pressure release flex valve but it seems to be to long … not sure how that can affect the pressure..

The Clorox test strips are not doing you any good. If you really want to take control of your pool, purchase a recommended test kit. It's an investment that will pay off in future savings. The test gets from TFtestkits.net provide the best value:

By your description, it doesn't sound like it. Take a look at this article and see if you can figure it out:

What is a pressure-relief flex valve? Pressure relief has nothing to do with filter performance unless the screen in the manifold is torn/missing. Then it will allow dirt to pass through.
