Cutting the cord-anybody else?

The ones I remember signed off at midnight.
There were a couple of random stations that went into the a.m. hours. We’d have sleepovers and see who could make it until all were off. That’s how I came to love Jerry Lewis/Dean Martin and Abbott & Costello. Long before infomercials invaded, but I think the Popiel Pocket Fisherman was popular around this time. Maybe Mr. Microphone. “Hey good looking, we’ll be coming back to get you later!”

I haven’t paid for CableTV since 2012. Or land line phone for that matter. I just got the highest speed ISP I can find (COX Cable) and I have subscription services (Amazon Prime, Netflix and Disney+). That’s it.

My kids don’t watch TV and neither do I. They prefer to watch all the idiot “influencers” out there on YouTube while simultaneously talking to their friends on FaceTime/Discord while simultaneously playing Minecraft/Roblox/Steam video games. Sometimes they take a break to eat dinner and do their homework.

TV is for boomers, as they would say …. and apparently anyone born last century is a “boomer” …

Totally. Two years ago, my daughter tried to pinch out the tv screen (enlarge) because she thought it worked like an iPhone. Too bad it doesn’t work that way. Not on this old flatscreen. 🤔😬

Fun fact. Many of the as seen on TV items were designed for the elderly and bedridden. From the Clapper to reach extenders to Snuggies. But such a small market wouldn't sustain a company so they were marketed as cool for the masses. Folks got one for Nana and one for themselves.

Jeez, I remember when kids used to play outside and it wasn't organized. Be back by the church bell or it was your butt. We didn't have street lights in my neighborhood that many had as their rule. I bought our current house still in the old mindset, have a big yard to run around and play, etc. Nope nobody does that so we put the pool in!!

Yep ... our property is just a nose hair shy of an acre. House and backyard probably consume about a 1/3rd of that acre ... kids still don't realize that the front 2/3rds of the property where all the open space and trees are belongs to us ... they might venture beyond the edge of the driveway someday ... 🤦‍♂️

With activities that gave you character. Like Jarts.
I have a vintage set in my garage!! I'm sure if I break them out the neighborhood police would be outraged while they text and drive!! I can't count the days fast enough to get out of this state when my kids are done with school!!

My neighbor found an unopened set of jarts when moving after 30 years. We looked them up and they were legal to own and use, but not to sell, even privately. They are on the hazardous materials list amongst others such as plutonium.

Of course folks try to game the system and sell the pieces separately as replacement parts.

We cut the cord about 4 years ago. Don't miss it a bit. Overpriced nonsense. Most TV shows we stream anyways. I only pay for internet service and any online streaming I want (i.e. Netflix). I also use digital antennas for local channels if/when we want to watch something.
And you pay a fortune to watch non stop commercials!

Ah yes, reminds me of the SNL skit about "Happy Fun Ball".... DO NOT taunt Happy Fun Ball!!!

I’m surprised this has not made a comeback- i have thought of getting one recently.
I've been thinking about this myself. Its not THAT much easier than saying Alexa turn off the lights, but every little bit helps, amirite ?

Honestly, we almost never watch local TV anyways. We stream everything. In fact, about the only time we watch a local channel is for ........ wait for it ........ the Superbowl. Those are about the only commercial we usually can tolerate.

I remember the crazy Steve Browne (meteorologist on KSAT 12) doing crazy things. He loved his smoking robot he would bring out around Christmas. Other than that, rarely anything worth watching on the local news. Well, except when it's tornado season...then I watch. Nothing like watching the news helicopters chasing 'em!

I don’t have/want any alexa/siri type things around my home- it’s turned off on my phone to the best of my ability.
Also siri/alexa/google don’t seem to speak my particular accent but i can totally clap 👏 🤣
