Crack in skimmer

When shutting down the pool at end of season last year noticed a hairline crack in the skimmer housing which was leaking. Have seen older posts recommending either Silicone RTV or 3M 5200 Marine sealant to seal crack instead of replacing skimmer unit. Is this still correct information?

Yes that should work.

I used some clear silicone goop on a cracked skimmer at my old house/pool.

Since there is no pressure on it, it should stop it from leaking.

5200 is way stronger than regular silicon and it is rated for use under water.

Either way scuff each side of the crack with sandpaper and wipe it down with rubbing alcohol before putting the sealant on.
