Can't keep my pool clean this summer!

I'd add, to give it an extra 10% to be shure you hit the mark because once the new water is mixed that 10% isn’t attainable by saying oh lets just do another 10% because now its all mixed in with new water.

Yep. Took me 36….
Crazy! But giving it a try.

Once I lower the CYA to an acceptable range and go through the SLAM process, how do I go about making sure this doesn't happen going forward? I think I mentioned earlier, I get a LOT of sunlight, so keeping FC in the pool is a constant struggle (which is why I incorrectly added too much CYA). I'm guessing my SWG is not setup properly.

We are supposed to be getting some major rain between today and Saturday - should I wait to continue the draining process?

Not only is it free but making room for the free warer before the rain allows you to keep it all versus having a high water level after a rain will cause you to throw away good and bad water.

So, got close to 5,000 gallons drained this week, even with the heavy rains. I retested CYA this morning and it's around 70 (from 100). I think I'll drain a bit more and retest once more.

On another note, my wife has decided to host a pool party Saturday. So, any guidance on how to get my pool swimmable by then? I've been adding shock when possible, but still have lingering algae. Can I double shock and brush tomorrow, vacuum Sat morning? Just need it functional for a few hours!

Thanks. I think I'm missing something anytime I read that article. It suggests min 3FC with ideal range between 5-10FC. The SLAM calculation is around 28 (FC?) Does the pool math calculator help with how much to add? Does the calculator take the CYA into account?

Yes. Yes. Click on FC in overview. Select SLAM level, it will tell you how much to add.

If you have visible algae, you should follow the SLAM process to clear the pool. Link-->SLAM Process

Just did a re-test of levels:

FC - 7.0 (includes this morning's addition of 3ppm liquid chlorine)
CC - 0.5
TC - 7.5
CH -200 ppm
TA - 90 ppm
Salt - 1800 ppm (this is low - but think I shouldn't adjust until after SLAM?)
pH - 7.6

So I will use Pool Match to increase FC from 7.0 to 28.0 and re-test in a few hours time?

thanks for that head's up and for the all the info. Hopefully this helps.

Will the pool be swimmable tomorrow at such a high FC level (or you expect it drop significantly due to algae consumption) ?
