C-19 Vaccine-I got one

I got a solid 4 mins of well wishes in on my ride home from work when ‘She’s a bad Mamma Jamma’ came on the radio. I changed the chorus a few times that *he* is the bad mamma jamma, which was a tad akward singing about how fine he is, but I’ll take that one for the team. The important thing is I covered you both. (y)

If nothing else, the mental pic of a big burly dude rocking out about how fine another big burly dude is, might make you smile for a moment. ;)

My son has worked from home since the advent of Covid. His employer has sent him a home test kit with 20 tests per month. He recently needed to come see us and he made sure to do the test daily while here. It even sends the results to be printed out and recorded someplace.

He will return here in 3 weeks and I'd kinda like to play with it and see how it worked (no time before). Anyone know anything about these kits?

My step son brought this home kit over the day before we took him into the clinic. It was super simple even though the instructions were in spanish. I don't know where the other set of instructions were. We opened the case with clean hands, put 6 drops of something into the top hole inside the case and I swabbed him and shoved the swab in the hole under the other hole in the case and closed it (what you see pictured). We waited 15 minutes but he showed positive within 2 minutes. Here is the pic of it after 5 minutes.

It's Abbott's Binax Now. $14 for two from Walmart.com. We use them after travel and before family gatherings. Easy, inexpensive, and one more layer of protection. (We are all vaxxed and boosted.)

They also have a monitored version from emed. They send a test report that you can use for travel. We used that for a recent cruise. $35 per test. It's the same exact test. You log in and do the test with the camera on, and the camera stays on the test for the 15 minutes it takes to get the results.

Casey,

Sorry to be late on this one, I was out on business travel all last week. We don't know you but have had you in our prayers all the way back to your fire. We've gotten all 3 shots. My wife's a retired nurse and if there's an excuse to get a shot she makes me do it! No politics here just simple "happy wife, happy life" philosophy!

Update on Jim is this...

He's been feisty and pulling his stuff off all day. When he gets his high flow oxygen off, his levels plummet to the 70 range. If he doesn't settle the alternative is #1 restraints or last resort, #2 ventilation.

That's where we are right now. He told me n his son that he's ready to come home. There is no way he can do that safely at this time. He is very sick right now. I don't think I can safely say that he is improving at this time. If anything, he's probably getting worse because he's plummeting into the mid to high 70s.

I'm praying for him. Praying for myself. Praying for his son. We're trying to stay optimistic but it's hard.

I appreciate all the thoughts, prayers and support you have given to me over the last 2 years. The fire n now this. Life has clobbered me but I'm going to get through this rough spot n hopefully he will too.

Keep the oxygen going as much as possible. Do your best get him to stay on it so he can avoid #2.

Can you talk to him by phone? Or maybe ask them if you can come and stand outside the window and yell at him...............tell him he HAS to behave or he will NOT be coming home!!! Behave means wear everything they put on/in him. Sometimes if they know the "rules" it helps.

I am not allowed in the hospital to see him. He is in isolation until he can get his levels stabilized. His phone just rings because he is now restrained. He's combative and ripping his stuff off. They gave him ativan to hopefully calm him down.

The nurse knows what she is talking about.

Call the nursing station and ask a nurse to put the phone up to him.

Praying he gets through this.

Dear @Casey I’m sorry to hear about this. I hope everything will be ok. It’s tough to hear about covid infections- I thought we’d be past this by now. Sending positive vibes.

I was wondering why they hadn’t already done the Ativan. I hope it settles him down a bit. Fingers crossed 🤞

The Binax Now ones are the good ones-- best test of the bunch... I've run through every single one of them on the market because I could never buy enough at one place to test the whole family. Avoid the BD. They are terrible. They are literally why I question the FDA on a lot of this COVID stuff. Never should have been approved.

It's good he's fighting, actually. Really good. Hope he's fine soon. Still keeping him in our thoughts and prayers.
