Well I enjoyed the intellectual exercise of the trouble shooting this with you and others. I now will seriously look at the omniPl. Wondering what it does that my "toast" did not do. Time to read and listen.

I did look on ebay. I would imagine the ones for parts. (not many right now) are in better shape than mine. I spoke to one of the ebay repair persons who is very reasonable but added that some of the boards with certain type of communication errors are hard to fix. (If not fixed just the cost of shipping and the return shipping). Lastly he mentioned in response to my consideration of an OmniPl that "the majority of these boards have display issues that develop and are costly to fix" Is this a common thing?Or pickup another board for parts:

I am not aware of any systemic issues with the Omni but you might try searching on the forum.
Also, most of the communication errors I have seen are due to poor cable choices and has nothing to do with the controller. I think people automatically think it is a problem with the board instead of trying to upgrade the comm cable first.

So to keep things good until I receive another control board, I connected the Line in electric to the pump and it went on perfectly. However.................the actuator is in the "off" position and does not seem to move manually even though there is a handle. Am I missing something?

Remove the handle the four screws that hold the actuator onto the valve. Pull the actuator off the valve. Put the handle on the valve and you can turn it.

You can also turn the handle without removing the actuator.
You need to put the bottom toggle switch into the middle position. Then unscrew the center handle screw several turns. Push down knob and the handle and then turn.

It is on the bottom or back of the actuator. Although since the actuator is not connected to the board, it doesn't matter anyway.
So ordered a "new board" on ebay and a used old display as my other one has a LCD that is deterioriating. (arriving next week) Regarding the other option, the attractiveness of the OmniPL to me was its E-connectivity from iphone. (My wife always asks me if there is a way to turn on pool lights from the outside. But I did not want to spend the money for it right now. I was wondering how one could jimmy rig things so that a proprietary (non hayward product) smart phone controlled relay (such as a ewelink relay) could be connected to the board or one of the relays below the board to accomplish this simple request?

Choose one or the other - Aqualogic light control or Wifi switch light control?
You can rewire the light circuit to run through a wifi switch. There are a lot of them out there.
Trying to have both systems control lights is not simple.

Thank both of you. I will study this. I have a more basic question. Right now my actuators are in the off position as it relates to my pool pump. I will have to manually turn them. When I put in my new aqualogic board next week, will I have to program it so it realizes what position my valves are currently in? That is what the toggle switch on the bottom of the actuator is for. It allows you to set the actuator position to match that of the control board.

When you put in your new board you will need to go through the entire configuration setup wizard to tell the board what equipment is connected to what relays.
So the settings were saved in the old board, not the display. Unfortunately I did not save any setting since the board failure was spontaneous. I watched a video on entering settings but I did not see the part where valve positioning was entered. I am going to guess that the pump motor will not turn on prior to me entering correct positions. Truth be told when I connected Line in to Load yesterday to get the pump temporarily working and the actuator was in wrong position and I had a 2 min deadhead situation which hopefully nothing went wrong to pump but now I have to wait until connected again.

Again, valve positions are not programed, they are controlled by the toggle switch on the actuator.

Because it is not entered. The toggle switch sets the valve position.
That gets back to why I said to remove the actuators and put the handles on the valves and set the valve manually.
After you have everything configured and running in normal modes then put each actuator on the valve, set the toggle switch for the proper orientation, and test that the panel properly controls the actuator and valve.
Pentair pumps will resume their last function when power is restored. If it was ON then it will run. If it was OFF then it will not run.
You should be fine. The pumps can run dry longer then that when priming.
