I set it, but this implies there's a function that checks temp @ 9AM and heats, if necessary. Can that be disabled?

You have to show me what lights on your indoor panel in the morning.
I would have expected a schedule in the HEATERS POOL button to enable pool heat at 9AM. Once that button is enabled, as shown by its red LED, then if the water temperature is below the desired set point you just lowered the heater will go on.

I assumed the cleaner function pumps water through the Jandy filter, is there something else I'm not aware of?

If we can’t figure out where POOL HEAT is getting turned on you could go to SYSTEM SETUP - CLEAR MEMORY and start fresh and you program in the way you want it to run.
I don’t think you are missing any mysterious part. Your Aqualink and heater are running fine. Just setup issues.

You said a cleaner runs that turns on SOLAR.
Do you have a pool cleaner that drives around inside the pool?
Do you have an In Floor Cleaning System (IFCS)?
I'm pretty hesitant to do a wipe, I'm obviously pretty green with this system. How many settings need to be specified after a wipe?

So why is the HEATERS SOLAR enabled?
Press that button and see if the LED goes off and stays off.
Check there is no schedule on that button.
HEATERS SOLAR LED is currently off. Reviewing HEATERS SOLAR displays "Cleaner turns on ALL DAYS at 01:00 PM and turns off at 04:00 PM"

No, for some reason I thought only the HEATER buttons could be scheduled. "FILTER PUMP" is set to start @ 9AM and runs to 4PM, that's got to be part of the problem. Does this function check for set water temp?
I should add that "FILTER PUMP" & "SOLAR" are the only buttons with set schedules.

You need FILTER PUMP on and HEATER POOL on to start the heater.
Your heater is starting at 9AM since your FILTER PUMP begins running. But I don't know what is turning on HEATER POOL.
See what LEDs are on after 9AM.
