Another Pool Build in Cypress, TX

Note to all newbies just beginning a pool!!!! I am going to really emphasize what Kim has been saying. Be Home!!! Unless you are sure no crew is coming. But let me tell you, at least around here, they are very unpredictable. If you or someone can't be home to keep an eye on things, it would be great if you could have outdoor cameras to check when you're away (if you possibly can.). I am retired, so being home isn't a big issue. So wouldn't you know this almost caused some extra hassle for the crew here now.
Great point, especially for O/B like myself. I work from a home office and my wife does not work and I'm glad we were here to answer questions and give direction as there was no pool company involved. That said, we have a life outside of building this pool and they did the decking while we were out of down and I had a neighbor come over several times and check on things. Unfortunately when they did the landscaping we were also out of town and rather than the agreed upon method of moving the 22 tons of desert rock they decided to go pick-up day labor and run wheelbarrows over my brand new decking damaging it in MANY areas, in-fact when we took blue painters tape and marked all the areas for the decking company fix we counted somewhere in the range of 35; everything from small scratches to a 3" x 2" piece of shotcrete knocked out of my planter. Had we been home, the first sign of this approach would have been shut down.

The excavator also missed digging out a skimmer and a light while I was traveling for business and wife didn't catch it. Plumbers crew forgot to stub for solar, again while I was traveling and neighbor caught it when he was reviewing the work with my wife. Not a big deal but still need to pay attention to details and not count on the subs being detail oriented.

Anyway, didn't want to take this off topic but great point!

QingGuy: I'm glad you gave more supportive examples. Until you've gone through this process, it's difficult to understand all that can go wrong. I wish I could count how many different pool, deck, landscaping people have touched this pool in some capacity or other. It doesn't take long for one person to make a big mistake. You just hope it isn't a catastrophe.

I hope new people will just trust us on this and take extra precautions to keep a watchful eye on things.

Paris: Thanks for posting the pool all filled! It's so fun to see. You will have to post more, because the security camera does not do justice to your pool!

That was probably Mark who came by to your pool. He called me this morning to see if I was ready to have him start up my pumps and everything. :-( How sad.... He then asked about your pool, Paris. I told him yours should be full by now. I really didn't think he knew I was talking about you, and said he would go up to that pool this morning. But...... well, I should have mentioned it to you, but I had a feeling he didn't know who I was talking about......

Did ya'll swim yesterday???? How was it??? What do you think? Are you happy with the job the Pebble guys did?

Looking forward to hearing more....
Suzy.

Today is trash day, and it's driving me batty! The garbage trucks keep going up and down our street. I feel like the dog who runs for the door thinking it's their master every time a car pulls up. Surely, someone could call the people in the morning of the day whose pebble is scheduled! If they have 6 crews doing 2 jobs a day, that's only 12 quick phone calls. Or text. Or email......

Sighhhhhhhh
Suz.......

Ok, I've made a decision..... If the pebble people don't come today, I'm telling them to hold off until I can see a French Grey Pebble Sheen pool. That's the one I thought I might like, but I could never get my PB or MMG to help me find one.

Maybe I'm not meant to have Blue Granite, so that's why my pebble keeps getting pushed back! My patience is running thin.
Suz.

I am trying to think what time they showed up at my house. I remember we were their second job that day. Let me look back at my build and see!

Suz - I was the second house and they showed up about 12:30. But I am sure it depends on how large the first job is and also how far away you are from the first sight!

I have tested the fill water once and posted the results under water chemistry. That was weeks ago. I don't have the heart for it right now. It's back to another Cary Grant movie and living in my own little world...

But I do have an update. Not that it means squat, but here goes.

I sent the PM a text about an hour ago. He's the one who will come out to start up the pumps and begin the chemicals. He will also give the pool school. He had asked me to text him when the Pebble crew arrived today. I texted that no one had come yet and that I was sad and disappointed. He asked if I had talked to the PB. I told him no - that our PB would just go into a long explanation of how the company is so backed up. :blah: :blah: :blah:

In like two minutes the phone rang and you know who was calling. He said he felt awful about it and that he was on the phone with the field manager of the crew that was supposed to do my plaster this afternoon. Their morning job didn't end until about 3:00. The PB was checking to see if they were still going to do my pool today. I told him that it would be ok to wait until tomorrow. The men needed to rest, and I didn't want an exhausted crew applying my plaster. I was very nice about it..... Until I told him I was more disappointed that MMG can't pick up the phone to tell me this each day. He then went in his :blah: :blah: :blah: speech which I've already heard more than I want. I politely but firmly told him none of that was a reason why with 6 crews doing 2 jobs a day, they can't call 12 people. One secretary can handle that in 30 minutes - 45 tops! For that matter, they really only have to call if the scheduled appointment has to be changed, right?! Then he told me he thought they were running 8 crews at this peak time. And I said, c'mon..... then 16 phone calls. I guess he figured I wasn't backing down off that, so he didn't say anything else. (Thanks for letting me vent here -)

He had the other guy on the phone, and the guy told my PB the plaster crew will be here at 7:00 in the morning. And if you believe that, I've got some property ........ Any takers?
Time will tell. I'm certainly not going to get excited or look forward to it at this point.

I just hope I'm not getting one of the 2 EXTRA crews hired for seasonal work during the peak season.

(so much for Suz's patience, huh Ernie?)

Suz.

This is SO not okay. I don't understand why it is taking so long and you aren't being informed. MMG never called me - but my PB knew what was going on and called me. My feelings are hurt FOR you. If the K man only knew what kinda pull you have now with such a large group and how we are ALL patiently watching. I have even sent him a couple of referrals in the past couple of months. But this is getting ridiculous. He needs to be all up in your pool right now making you happy and making sure they get to your house.

Rant away Suz - you have been more patient, kinder and way more gentle than humanly possible!

UGH!

SUZ!! You are my hero  for calling him and letting him know how disappointed your are and how they should be calling to keep everyone in the loop!

What if you were taking the days off of work to be there? It is bad enough that your waiting and hoping then nothing:brickwall:

HUGS and lots of movie time!

Kim
