A Houston Pool Build Inside the Loop

Denise, you asked about a timeline. The PB wants to do:

Today- dig
Tomorrow-steel
Friday-gunite

However, we will not be home on Friday (actually only be home a few hours in the a.m.). We had already scheduled a trip up north to see my mom since we didn't go at Christmas. When I asked if we could move gunite to Monday, he said he really doesn't like leaving it open that long. Plus there's a 40% chance of rain on Monday. BUT, if the dig takes longer than today, then it would have to be moved. So in some ways I hope the inspector doesn't come until a lot later!

One thing I will ask is if they shoot on Friday, who will water the gunite while we are gone.

If the gunite is in and you can't be there, you have have an oscillating sprinkler set up on a timer for them to plop in the shell and turn on. If it's set up right, it should cover what you need, and only water for as long as you need.

Duh, I had forgotten about sprinklers!

Well I guess if there is a problem, depth wise or whatever, they'll just have to come back and fix it!

Forgot to add that the PM said he always takes pics and sends then to the owner when they can't be there for gunite. But, we won't leave for the airport til mid morning so I may get to see some.

They do a stub out (I think that's what he called it) for where all the plumbing will go into the pool. They dig trenches after gunite and hook it up. Does anyone see problems doing it this way?

I would be concerned because I would think they would have to pressure test all the pipes before gunite to make sure there are no problems. Most of the builds I have seen have all the plumbing done and tied together without equipment near the pad. That way they can pressurize and test before the concrete goes in and you can't fix anything. Maybe they have to do it different because your area is so tight?
