A Houston Pool Build Inside the Loop

Marla...I'm sure you will find a way to enjoy the experience. At the end of the day the journey is as exciting as the destination. Just like this journey to our pool dreams on this forum - it's priceless.

I agree with this. That's why I'm chronicling mine (even if no one else reads it) so I can read back through as well as capture the adventure with all the emotions, struggles, and joys.

Thanks y'all! I will take pics tomorrow as the tree comes down, if time allows. My hubby is glad it's coming down - no more mess to clean up! All those leaves and pecans! The squirrels will be sad though....

Chronicling the pool build here is what I plan to do, just like most everyone else! As Denise said, all the sorrows, joy and anything else in between!

One pool build from a while ago was well covered. The owner just went back to read it to help someone else out and he commented on what a neat read it was for him because he had forgotten some of what had happened.

It is a good thing to have the story written out!

So it begins! They were here at 8 to start cutting down the tree. Hubby and I explained to the boss what we wanted as far as firewood and a 30" piece of the trunk. Hubby will be back around 10ish to check in. He had a meeting close by this a.m. so that was convenient. I have some pics but I'm having trouble getting them synced from my iPhone to my iPad.

All that's left. ::sigh::

Kim, yes they cut it up and stacked it nicely. We didn't ask for too much because we don't really need all that much. They also cut a large piece for the table and left me a smaller "slab" piece (which is sitting on top of the large one).

Wow I am sad for that tree. I understand the need to get rid of it though for bigger and better things. Did you tell your neighbors? They might be shocked...

Also did you need a permit to cut down the tree? In Austin that tree would have more rights than people. You would have not been allowed to cut it down and they would have tagged it and put it in the tree registry (I am not joking).

I am so excited you are getting started on your pool!

That slab piece will be fun to work with! I see it as a small side table with a pretty base (iron?) Put polyurethane on it to keep it pretty.

So who will be taking out the stump? See if you can get the chips as they are wonderful for smoking meat! Wet them down, put them in tin foil with holes poked in it--------yummmmmmm

Kim, I think the PB thinks they'll be able to get it out at the dig with the bobcat. I'm not so sure. The slab and trunk will need to go into the garage and dry for a couple of months before I can remove the bark and start working on it. We are going to have to get a furniture dolly to move the big piece into the garage! I may have to put casters on that one!

Umm - no permit needed. I do regret having to cut it down. If there had been any other way... My hubby is glad that he no longer has to clean leaves and nuts out of the gutters though. I hope I can plant some citrus around the pool at least. I will have to see how much sun the space will get once the neighboring trees all leaf out in a couple of months.
No I didn't tell the neighbors. Actually no one is living behind us now, but the builder who constructed the 2- 3 story monstrosities next to us has purchased it. But I think he will be overpricing those (they are not done yet) so that may hold him up on building behind us.
