A Houston Pool Build Inside the Loop

Here is the revised pool design. We expanded it a foot in both directions and got rid of the shelf.

We also shortened the fire pit.

We also added a planter behind the raised wall.

Love the design!

Okay I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but skimmer placement- I know they are supposed to be downwind. But in the summer our wind (what we have of it) is from the south, but during winter it mostly comes from the north. So would I put the skimmers on the north side, which would be the side with the fire pit and benches?

How many are you getting? If two, I'd put one on each side of a long wall without a feature.

I have 2 skimmers. On opposite long walls and opposite one another (1 in deep, 1 in shallow end). I wouldn't try to plan for wind that much b/c once people are in swimming the wind won't matter nearly as much as people moving the water. I.e., debris will get moved all over the pool surface.

You won't have any dead spots with 6 returns! That's awesome. I'd put one skimmer a few feet away from steps on one side and the other on the opposite wall, a few feet away from the edge of the wall. Space them out evenly from the edge so it looks uniform. Does that make sense?

First we have to sign the contract! Hubby needed to have some things added to it that he had already talked to the PB about. Also in the specs, I want my equipment spelled out (thanks TFP!), not just "Jandy filter system." I don't think that will be a problem.

So once that is done, we will sign! Dig date will probably be mid January.

Maria-

I am not a fan of the design. I wouldnt use stairs that large in the design or the placement. I think the tanning shelf should be larger then step off into the pool. I think pull the fire pit back. Im just trying to help.

Maybe this will help.

The garage is at the top right. House is below the pool. We have French doors that open onto a raised wood deck on the right, but isn't shown in this view.

Badcrc, I got rid of the shelf and the 2nd step goes all the way across to become a bench. We made the pool a foot wider in each direction and actually reduced the size of the firepit after seeing some and feeling how much heat they produce.

I appreciate any and all comments!

An update. We are getting ready to sign a contract so I wanted to post equipment and such for your perusal. Please let me know if we are missing anything. We will be getting all necessary lien releases.

Equipment is all Jandy and pvc is #40. Pool will be 19' x 17'-6"

Filter: Jandy 580 CL
Pump type: Jandy Stealth
Pump: Jandy ePump (JEP 2.0) vsp
Cleaner: Dolphin M500 robot
Heater: Jandy Jxi 400k btu
Skimmers: 2
Main Drain: 2
Returns: 6-8 (typical)
Pool lights: 1-12 volt LED color changing light (Jandy Watercolor). Also, 2 color LED uplights on bench under the raised beam. These will be on a different circuit from pool light.
PureLink PLC 1400 salt system
Pebblesheen w/ shells (probably glass beads too, can add later)
Aqualink RS-4 PDA pool computer
Glass tile in pool for waterline
3 water spouts on raised beam
18" raised beam with stone/tile veneer
2- 18"x18"x21" urn pedestals with split face stone veneer
5'x4'x12" gas fire pit with split face stone veneer
travertine coping

Deck will be pavers to match existing. If they cannot match then we will do an alternate decking surface.

They are also going to remove the tree and move my philodendron to the side.

I also want a Texas star in my deck like Suz, but because it's pavers Ill be looking for an inlay. They will not charge me to install it if I buy it. The PB gave me the thickness it would need to be in order to sand-set.

So I'm open to any and all suggestions!

Looks good to me... But what do I know?!?

What do you think you will do for step markers? Some of your glass waterline tile or another tile?

I'm so excited for you! Did the PB give any indication of dig date or time frame for estimated completion?
