We installed this pool in June of 2018. But I thought I'd post pics now to bring everyone up to speed on the current deck build. We purchased the pool June 2, 2018. The pool builders were 4 weeks behind schedule due to the wet spring weather so they told us it would be the end of June, possibly mid-July before they could do it. We didn't want to wait so we decided to install it ourselves.

June 4, 2018 Imagine the possibilities! The view from the concrete pad outside the side door the week before the pool was installed.

100207
June 7, 2018 We began prepping and leveling the area before the pool was even delivered. We used a transit level borrowed from a friend in construction. This photo shows the markings where the posts will go.

June 6, 2018. Pool delivered. We had them unload it onto our trailer so we could park the trailer by the build site. Looking at all the boxes and cartons, we had some second thoughts about tackling the daunting task we had taken on but we were determined!

100209
June 9, 2018 Didn't get a pic of the pavers we put under the posts, laying out the bottom rails, or unrolling the wall, but this shows the wall finally up! You can see the transit level on the right side of the pic with a bag over it to protect it from the rain.

100210
June 10, 2018 The liner is in! Left the hose running in it overnight until the trucks could haul water the next day...

100211
June 11, 2018 Fill day! I think it took something like 18 truckloads of water! You can see the hose sections from the truck laying on the ground.

100212
June 12, 2018 The true test to a successful install is when you fill it! The water is almost perfectly level. Success!

We quickly realized we needed something other than mud under the ladder where the kids were getting in and out! Stay tuned for the patio and deck builds!

My husband wanted to use pavers to extend the concrete pad outside the side door up to the edge of the pool.

June 30, 2018 Prepping the area where the pavers will go. Layering gravel, then sand. The pool is to the right of the picture.

Brick by brick... follow the pattern... 90+ degrees and wishing we were swimming...

Finished! But there's still A LOT of mud... so we ultimately knew the way to go was a deck.

With temps soaring and our budget maxed out, we enjoyed the pool the rest of the summer and planned the deck for spring 2019.

Swimming with the cousins :giggle:

Stay tuned for the deck build!

Spring 2019 update! Our next exciting project is the deck! There's so much rain in the forecast, I'm afraid it won't get done as quickly as I was hoping.

April 26, 2019 Here's a shot from an upstairs window inside the house. The deck will be to the right of the paver patio, with stairs up to it from the patio.
We need to get another load of river rock to finish going around the pool. We put the first load down April 28th out of desperation because it was just pure MUD all the way around the base of the pool which made tending to the opening tasks pretty nasty.

My goal: have the deck ready to go by the time it's time to swim! So we planned, measured, remeasured, changed the plan, measured again, etc, etc, etc and we finally came up with a solid plan, materials list, etc.

100221
The deck will be 12x16', plus a 4' walkway where we will put the ladder to get in/out. The picture shows the stairs close to the pool but they will be at the other end of the deck.

100222
May 2, 2019 Picking up supplies. Yup, going with the Trex composite decking in Coastal Bluff. Trex railing also on order.

100223
May 4, 2019 Putting in the concrete forms. Rain, rain, go away! We managed to get the concrete forms in during a 12 hr gap in the rain.

100224
Forms are in! But the rain is due to start again so we had to cover them with plastic bags...

100225
May 5, 2019 View from the same upstairs window... All deck materials are stacked and ready to go!

I'll post more pics of the deck as it goes up!

That is one enormous pool! Well done! :goodjob:

I've got to warn you, as i have a Trex deck, it can get pretty dang hot in the sun. You might find some outdoor rugs handy to give you cooler space to stand on. They come in such pretty patterns now.

Your last post was at 3:03. I was thinking the deck would be done when I got on after dinner. You spoiled us with the quick progress today! Looking great!

Our white vinyl railings are pretty but annoy me as they get green on various areas. Black aluminum hides all that goodness. What kind of railing are you doing?

As a fellow NKY resident, I love your build and the progress. We are having our pool installed next week (hopefully) This rain is crazy. If you don't mind my asking, how far out of level was your yard before the dig?
Howdy, neighbor! Thank you for your comments! The pool has already brought us so much joy! We thought our yard was "pretty level" until we actually started leveling it. We had to go down almost 22" on one side of the pool to get it level with the other side! :eek:We originally started leveling with just a very long board and long level on top of it. Well we realized there was no way to get a 28' circle level (within an inch!) that way. The transit level is the only way to ensure your pool will be LEVEL!

Are you installing the pool yourself or having a builder do it? We checked with several pool builders in the area when we bought ours and they were all so backed up that we decided to just go for it. We figured if it can be done, then we can do it. It's just a matter of getting educated on how to do it properly. YouTube was a huge help.

Keep us updated on your install! I'd love to see it!

Yeah, the kids have been sitting on the pile of Trex and we did notice that it got pretty warm. Maybe we should have gone with the gray (lighter color may not get so hot?) but I didn't care for it as much as the brown. Thanks for the tips on the outdoor rugs! I'll have to get one for sure. :)

Ha ha ha... we wish the deck was done that fast! We didn't buy the anchors for the posts because my husband "knew he had some at home" leftover from another project. Since he can't find them, we couldn't start the deck tonight. He'll have to go pick up the ten anchors we need tomorrow. I promise to post pics as soon as we begin!

We chose the trex composite railing. The only white part will be the posts (a post sleeve). The top and bottom rails are brown and the balusters are black aluminum. I found an example pic online. That's pretty close to the color of the decking we chose also. Maybe ours is a tad darker.

That’s much better than ours. A quick wipe of the top railing and an annual power wash of the posts will keep it fresh.

Y'all do GREAT work!
Thank you! The credit really goes to my husband and son who do all the hard labor!
Can't wait to see the deck built!
Us too!!! Once the deck is finished, with some final landscaping and finishing touches, it is really going to be an amazing oasis. I know it isn't as extravagant or luxurious as many of the stunning pools I've seen here on TFP, but to us, it will truly be paradise.

Thanks for the info about your dig. I am guessing we are at least 24" out of level. We are having it installed. We bought this house back in September and left an 18'x33' oval at our old home. My wife can't go one summer without a pool! (I can't either, but I won't tell her that:) I was lucky enough to purchase the pool on March 2nd and get on a builder's list right away. If the rain holds up, hopefully we can get this installed soon. I can't wait! Not looking forward to the yard destruction, but that is part of it. Our last pool had to be dug out almost 3' and we had to put a retaining wall in. Not doing that this time. I will put the dirt up against the wall. Your deck design looks awesome! I may have to steal that for next year!

Looking good! Check out my thread on our deck build that's underway. Looks like we picked pretty much the same materials and colors. Trex floors in Spiced Rum with Vintage Lantern inlays and borders, white railing posts with black spindles and vintage lantern top and bottom rail. Should be laying deck boards Monday. I'll be following your progress, can't wait to see it finished!

OH MY! That is one enormous (and expensive!) deck! It will be gorgeous when it's done. I will definitely be following your progress!

The sun came out for a short time!
The rest of the day was cooler and overcast with more rain expected in the early evening.
They hustled to get as much done as possible before the rain!

As I said in an earlier post, we have a friend from church that works in construction who helped us design the deck and frame it out. He made such quick work of the framing! We were so thankful to have him there!

The railings had to be special ordered and were expected to come in on May 8th but they have not arrived yet. So, with any luck, we'll be able to install those next weekend.
I'll keep you updated!
