14 years of pool stores and failure...

Activity since last post:

04/13/17 10:14 AM Tested Chemicals: FC: 22.0 CC: 0.
04/12/17 10:00 PM Manual vacuum, full pool
04/12/17 7:15 PM Tested Chemicals: FC: 24.
04/12/17 3:15 PM Added 64 oz of 12.5% Bleach/Liquid Chlorine.
04/12/17 3:12 PM Tested Chemicals: FC: 21.5.
04/12/17 10:52 AM Added 192 oz of 12.5% Bleach/Liquid Chlorine.

Current water condition: Color is good. Haziness is gone, clear all the way down.

Was quite pleased to see the pool math calculations work out so well. Pool is looking really great. I will add another 43oz of liquid chlorine here shortly and get that back up to 24. Daily pic will come a bit later.

Pics from today as promised. Most of the color variation at this point is just attributed to the plaster. As you can see in the deep end picture, there's quite a bit of....character....in this old plaster. :) The shallow end plaster is definitely more worn and doesn't give the same color hue as the deep end. Everything is clean, was vacuumed twice over last night.

Activity since yesterday:

04/14/17 1:58 PM Added 1 oz of Diatomaceous Earth.
04/14/17 12:00 PM Tested Chemicals: FC: 27.5 CC: 0.
04/13/17 10:05 PM Added 183 oz of 12.5% Bleach/Liquid Chlorine.
04/13/17 10:03 PM Tested Chemicals: FC: 15.5.
04/13/17 9:00 PM Manual Vacuum, full pool

So after I tested yesterday at 10AM I didn't make it back out to the pool until 9pm to clean and top off FC. 10am FC had a result of 22, 10pm was 15.5. I should have retested. I added the appropriate amount of liquid chlorine to get it back up to 24 from 15.5 and as of this morning it was 27.5 so I obviously overshot it. I think my 10pm test was off last night, I most likely miscounted. Also added 2 cups of DE to the sand filter today (entered 1oz because well...didn't want to weigh it). It raised the PSI of the pump by 1. I've been watching it since, its gone up another almost 2 PSI but nothing significant at this point.

Triptyx, I thought you were wrong when you said it still looked cloudy yesterday, you were right. It's clearer today and I'm sure it will get even more so. Thanks for keeping me grounded!

Today I bring you an example picture of the glory of alternate lighting. The view from the shallow end really does my pool no favors in pictures. It looks kind of dreary. The view from the other end looks significantly better.

Thank you for all the continued help.

Getting much better! Someone once said they thought I was joking when I said I could tell what the screw heads were (they're philips) on the drain covers in my deep end, which is 5.5 ft deep, while standing at the side of the pool. I wasn't joking. Another poster has it spot on when he says "gin clear". I was able to tell you weren't there yet because I could see light reflections in the water from the sunlight in your image. Your latest image - the drain still looks a bit hazy to me, but the DE should help you to get things right pretty quickly now.

Keep at it, you're so close to done!

A little bonus image - my pool at night late last year:

It looked so clear because of how far you've come. And with very little assistance from us I might add. You've done well man! Sounds perfect on the DE, and the dirtier they are, the better a SF will clean. Until you lose enough flow, so just keep going, BW as needed, and this will clear on up pretty soon.

Very happy for your success, and the pool doesn't look that bad! Hang around here long, and you'll really be itching for a re-do though...:p

Trip....that pool almost looks like there is no water in it. That's crazy. I think I've only seen my water that clear once in 14 years. Excited to get back there thanks for the inspiration!

Itching for a re-do? I've been suffering from pool envy from the second I got here. Probably will be for a while too, that'll definitely be something that will take some planning (and lots of saving lol).

Wow! This is an amazing testament to TFP! And you! Congrats :goodjob:

I've had my pool on a TFP diet since I got it just over a month ago. My water is so clear that I can now see stains in the plaster around the drain in the 10+ ft deep end. Couldn't see that when we got the pool. Gonna try and tackle that asap.

You have a great pool!

Today is what I am hoping is the last day of SLAM. (My electric bill really hopes so.)

Been maintaining FC at 24, manually vacuuming/brushing daily. This morning was the first time the pool was what I would consider "gin clear". Pics today were taken immediately after a vac and brush which stirred things up ever so slightly.

Will be running the OCLT tonight doing a test just before I got to sleep tonight and then hopefully its on to maintenance mode. I'm leaving for a few days to go out of town late tomorrow but the household has been trained on the FAS-DPD test and they'll be sending me results daily so I can tell them how much liquid chlorine to add. MX-8 will be going back in as well. I'm expecting as long as I pass the SLAM exit tonight, it'll be back under 10FC by the time I get back and then I can run a full range test.

The family is all amazed at how the water looks (it usually never looks this good at any point in the summer). I owe it to all of you guys. Thank you.
