Numb!

Oh, PS-

You mentioned it somewhere back, but what does the Wife and family think about the pool and your awesome skillz now!??

They are happy that is for certain. Numerous comments about how clear it looks, and its already been used a few times. That's going to turn daily here shortly as school is wrapping up and the 100 degree days officially began yesterday. I think they'll be even happier when the pool stays this way!

Just so you know, I'm going to use those pics when I think someone needs a little 'help' with 'clear'. :thumleft:

Perfect! When you want it to be clear so badly...its really easy to tell yourself its clear when its not. In retrospect if someone had consumed gin that cloudy, there may have been aftermath.

Me too! I've already used this thread and Numb as our poster child on some recent new members. One was a faithful PS patron asking what/why we preach what we do. Well...here you go...

So the next thing that happens is, now that your water stays so ridiculously clear, the old plaster looks worse, because now you can see it completely! This is what happened to me, and then I eventually was driven to look for an drain and acid wash.

So while TFP has saved me tons of money, it has also "cost" me tons of money [read on] ;-)

So now that I figured out I could "magically" do what I was paying my pool guy to do, I thought, "if I could just keep the PH in check, I'd stop, and maybe even be able to reverse all this calcium depositing [that may be what you see by the way].

So that led to adding automated acid dosing.

That also led to replacing my old SWG, which was quite a challenge due to the newness of the design.

So now my water was both crystal clear, and it was staying that way!

So with this super clear water, now I had to clean my plaster. So that turned into one heck of a project [ask Brian!].

https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/130068-AquaBright-Ecofinish-Alternative-to-Acid-Washing

With all that, I couldn't be happier. I check my chemicals once a week, empty the robot, clean out the skimmer [well just throw out the hair net], and scrub the sides where the robot doesn't get them.

And it just stays nice! Better than when I was paying a lot of money for someone else to do a poor job of it!

Anyway, the reason for the long story is to look into acid washing if all that stuff is calcium build up. Then keep your CSI slightly negative and it won't come back.

You can't Acid wash plaster too many times though.

Dropped the PH to 7.2 last night, checked again tonight and TA was down ~20ppm to 120. Project Lower TA is working. Forgot to turn on the aerator last night so I did that this evening, will hopefully cause this PH to rise faster and speed things up. :) (See, I've been doing my reading!)

A poster child? Me? All I did was a bunch of reading and listening and followed directions!

It is nice when some one does follow directions to the extent you do AND you do some reading on your own. You are really getting a handle on the ins and outs of your pool!

Don't you love how this does that just like it is supposed to????? Got of love TFP!

Project Lower TA still in progress. Started at 140, hovering between 100 and 110 now. Color change starts at 100 and fully saturates at 110. Progress! What's my ultimate goal? I know the 'range' is 70-90. Everything else is on track.

Step pics really aren't needed anymore since I'm not in slam, but I couldn't resist sharing this one. Aerator causing ripples in the pool made for a cool picture.

Nice! Looks like glass beads. :thumleft:
Ultimately, your overall goal is to keep CSI within the proper range for plaster. But I believe your current goal is to lower TA until pH rise is held to a slow rate.

DUDE! You have SPARKALICIOUS WATER! That is one GREAT looking pool!

Did you ever think your pool could look like that?????????

TA/PH-your pool will tell you where it wants the TA to be. Start at 90 for you TA. Let it ride for the week. Does your PH stay stable for the week? If PH goes up during the week then push the TA down to 80 and try again.

I will also tell you that some pools likes the PH at 7.8 or so.

This is where keeping a good log comes in. That will show you what is what.

Yep, that's some nice looking TFPC water right there. TA is stubborn Numb. It's strong for a long time, but it will finally break for you. I don't remember your makeup TA, but this is something you're likely gonna fight from now on. Mine is 130 or better from my well, so its a lifelong battle around here.

Like :kim: said, you may find a sweet spot for your pH, and hopefully you will.

Numb, I just wanted to let you know something..............This thread is being "used" by several of us here as an example of what can happen if pool $tores are used for testing. How neat is that???

That's awesome. Its a combined effort right? First it was me doing the research, you guys helping, and all of us having success. Now I am trying to be a part of the effort to help others, so if using this as a success story is helpful to others...WIN!

As for the TA and PH, thanks that is kind of what I was planning. i'll get it to the top end of normal and then monitor PH for a while, see what happens to it, and then adjust accordingly.

I'm continually amazed by the minimal amount of daily effort it takes to maintain this at this point. I find myself eagerly awaiting test time each day. Truth be told there were days in previous years (lots of them) where I just tried to ignore the pool existed because I didn't want to know how much $$$ the LPS was going to gouge me for when I took in my sample.

Did a bunch of work on the backyard over the weekend and I recruited one of my kids for pool duty....the mission was simple: If it gets in the pool, get it out. I wasn't about to let a bunch of yard clippings ruin that beautiful water! :D

Great job!
Heck, you might want to even go a step further and press the Support button up at the top of the page. You get a cool badge and some nice perks, too. :thumleft:

It was already done, was just waiting on the e-mail. I'm sure TFP staff had better things to do last night. ;) Proud owner of a shiny new badge here.

TA took a flying leap to 90 in my test last night, didn't exactly believe it so I retested....sure enough. 90. Guess its time to watch the PH and TA and see where my pool would prefer to land.
